Renault will compete with the pair formed by Nico Hülkenberg and Jolyon Palmer in 2017 after opting for the continuity of the british in detriment of the options of Kevin Magnussen. A decision that was not easy, as recognized Bob Bell, Technical Director of the training of Enstone, in statements collected by the british ‘Autosport’. The responsible of the French team explains that Palmer took to find the path, but since half of the season has signed a continuous progression that led him to score his first points at the Malaysian GP, and sign some good performances in the final stretch of the year.
“Keep one of the riders is good for the consistency of the team and I am delighted to have Jolyon Palmer with us” explains Bob Bell, which in turn confessed the difficulty of betting on Palmer: “Honestly, from the perspective of the engineer, was a very difficult decision to choose between Palmer and Magnussen. Jolyon has improved a lot, particularly at the end of the season. You can see how it has gained in confidence and it is improving all the time. It will be a good partner next year because our riders are so different, they bring different things to the goal we want to achieve as a team”.
In this aspect, Bob Bell explains the progression which has
followed Palmer: “I don’t know if it took him a long time to focus squarely on the
Formula 1, get used to the car, to our work and how to get the best
of the car. it Is possible that it was a necessary learning process, but
of any mode Jolyon has shown a real progress. That is the most
importantly, whatever the motive behind it. And I think it has not finished yet,
Palmer will continue to improve. I am sure that you will learn from someone like Nico.
Have an open mind. If it continues to develop as it has done in the
second half of the season, will bien“.
