José Luis Espinosa is the only Spanish rider to compete in the Dakar 2017 in the category of quads. The spaniard faces his third participation in the raid more hard of the world and I will be at the controls of a quad 4×2 E-ATV, a vehicle based on a KTM Rally 690 that has received a good number of changes before being approved in Germany. The result is that Espinosa, known as ‘The Black Knight’, has for the first time a machine fit to fight for positions of privilege on a category that has been orphaned with the departure of the brothers Patronelli.
“I would like to tackle the race stage by stage, with head. I’m very motivated and I hope that all goes well. The truth is that the project has a lot of potential and I have a vehicle competitive. I will give everything to get to cross the finish line in Argentina, although I am aware of my possibilities,” explains José Luis Espinosa. However, Espinosa has signed a pre-preparation for the Dakar rather positive. The spaniard got the successful completion of the Merzouga Rally in Morocco and signed a remarkable fifth place overall among the quads with the cataloging world cup in the last Baja Aragon.
With a vehicle more competitive and with the experience gained in their first two appearances in the Dakar, Jose Luis Espinosa is convinced he can finish the test, a goal that could not accomplish in 2014 after leaving in the third stage by accident and by the lack of understanding with the assistance of the helicopter that evacuated without. In 2015 had to say goodbye to the test in the eighth special for a breakdown, fact that he hopes does not repeat itself in this Dakar, which also has the support of the shopping centre Madrid Xanadú, the town Hall of Torremolinos and Moto Madrid.
