The countdown to the 24 Hours of Le Mans has begun, and that means the debut of José María ‘Pechito’ López in La Sarthe is closer to. The argentine, who has been moved to the Toyota TS050 Hybrid #7 in which they had to compete on the third prototype of the team, has declared that they do not feel concerned by this fact. So much so that the three-time champion of the WTCC has come to say that “the team would have much more to lose” with him in the Toyota #7 and that have no problem competing in the prototype, intended only for Le Mans because their chances of winning are still intact in the quote queen of the WEC.
Toyota decided that José María ‘Pechito’ López intercambiase his position with Stephane Sarrazin in the wake of his accident at Silverstone and missed the round at Spa. In statements to ‘Autosport’, the argentine has confessed to be in agreement with this decision: “I’m fine. I’m with the team and I think Toyota had much more to lose with me in the car #7. to Be in the third Toyota is not a bad thing, in fact it means nothing. I will have the same opportunities as others, although it will be hard. Nico Lapierre and I share that we have been in a very bad situation and that we’ve fought to get out of it”.
In this aspect, ‘Pechito’ has shown a full of confidence: “I’m Not losing anything either, because after Le Mans will return to car #7. It is a very important home race for the team and it is logical to put your efforts in optimizing everything. Sarrazin is very fast and you know Le Mans better than anyone else in the team. This is why I’m not desperate, I know how this works. Sometimes there are good times and bad. Cbelieve that in terms of speed I’m fine, I’m competitive and have the pace to win races. I lack experience in the LMP1, but I am anxious to be at Le Mans. I’m sure that will be a very good level“.
