Citroën Racing has been a year of many shadows and flashes spot in the WRC. Although the victories of Kris Meeke in Mexico and Spain have been redefined slightly to 2017 of the French team, it is clear that it will not be a year remembered in the formation of Versailles. Perhaps for this reason, Citroën goes without complexes in the Rally of Australia, to such an extent that Yves Matton in his role as team skipper has publicly called for her two younger riders, Stéphane Lefebvre and Craig Breen, which are more aggressive and take more risks to try to get closer to the rhythm of Kris Meeke.
Kris Meeke has contested the Rally of Australia on three occasions, adding as a best result the third place garnered in 2015: “I have very good memories of my three appearances in Australia. In 2015, I led the rally for two days, but in the end I could not with Volkswagen. Even so, the third position was a good result. This year, some of the stages will be new to me, but that should not be a big problem. In the end it is a rally special with details like trees, that are so high as to make the light sneaks in between the branches creating a strobe effect“.
After showing a high performance in the stretches of land of the last Rally RACC test in which ended up winning, Kris Meeke is brand ambitious goals for the last appointment of the season: “Although the changes of light make it very difficult to read the road, I really want to play this rally. Above all, I want to compete in the ‘Nambucca’, one of the special’s fastest rally, and that for me is one of the best stretches of the entire season. Taking into account our performance in the last two rallies of land, I think we’re going to be in the fight for the first positions“.
Craig Breen will debut in the sections australian: “Is curious. Australia is my second home because my sister lives in Perth and there is a large irish community in the country, but I’ve never competed here. I can’t wait to begin my second rally outside of Europe. It will not be easy, because I’m going to have to learn everything from scratch, which is a disadvantage in an event that does not change much from one year to another. However, the performance of the Citroen C3 WRC in the past events in earth fills me with optimism. I Hope that we can finish 2017 in a positive way”.
Stéphane Lefebvre you do not have a lot more experience, because it has only contested the Rally of Australia in 2015: “Is the longest trip of the year. In 2015 I came here only to make the acknowledgements, but Mads Ostberg has had an accident and the team asked me that were putting up a good. We did not have our team career and we had to apply improvised solutions. Despite the lack of preparation, what we did not do badly, although he had some difficulties in ‘Nambucca’. My goal now is to build from the level that I showed in Spain, when I was rolling two-tenths miles of the leaders”.
