What makes a compact and sporty in a great compact sporty? it Is my opinion, but it is summed up simply in one word: fun. And what is fun from my humble point of view? The car makes me feel feelings, that is not a missile on rails, that present challenges. In less than a year ago to this part have passed through my hands Audi S3 and Audi RS3 Sportback, and after they have been evaluated, I’m going to tell you 10 reasons why I think that the Audi S3 I think is a better compact sports that the almighty Audi RS3.
1) The Audi S3 is much cheaper
The Audi S3 is significantly more affordable. According to the current prices of Audi, the S3 in three-door body and manual gearbox boots in 43.340 € . The price is a little affordable, we agree on that, and it corresponds to the models prior to the face wash – not yet on sale. But is that Audi RS3 Sportback costs a whopping 59.800 euros. Are more than 15,000 euros of difference, the justification of which level of performance and dynamics can only correspond to a whim or a checking account very bulky.
2) Only auto: the Audi RS3 will not be offered with manual change
Another reason in favor of the Audi S3, it is available at both with manual change of six relations as with gearbox S tronic of six relations. The Audi RS3 Sportback offers no option for a manual gearbox, which can be a cause of shame to some purists. Well it is true that another direct rival, the Mercedes-AMG A 45, is not available with a manual gearbox. I am of the opinion that in a segment purist at least offer the manual option, although the automatic dual-clutch are more effective, fast, and efficient.
3) In the variety (of bodywork) it is fun
The Audi RS3 Sportback is offered only with the body Sportback, as its name says. There are rumors more than well-founded that the Audi RS3 will also be offered in the near future in the sedan body, but only offered with five doors. By contrast, the Audi S3 is offered in all the bodies that the Audi A3 can be purchased: 3 doors, 5 doors (Sportback), Sedan and Cabrio. I agree that the choice of five-door is the more practical and reasonable, but I miss Audi RS3 three-door.
4) lighter, simpler
The Audi RS3 Sportback is only available with the engine 2.5 TFSI five-cylinder engine and 367 HP of power – while its next generation is likely to reach 400 HP, seen as seen in the Audi TT RS. Attached to its all-wheel drive system quattro, and a box DSG of seven relations, Audi RS3 Sportback weighs 1.595 kg. For its part, Audi S3 three-door with manual transmission weighs 125 kilograms less, thanks to a motor more simple, a 2.0 TFSI four-cylinder and 300 HP. It has less doors and a gearbox that is lighter.
5) do Agility, or a behavior on rails?
I was able to test an Audi S3 a few months ago, and compare it with their first generation – you can see the comparison here. With respect to the Audi RS3 Sportback, the S3 is more playful, more agile. It feels more lightweight. In the Audi RS3 will note that the weight distribution is less favorable, with a heavier engine hanging on the front axle and some wider tires that prevent these smaller landslides, those small losses of traction that make the S3 a car more exciting. It is a matter of tastes, the RS3 goes on rails – for good and for bad.
6) Discretion and elegance
This last paragraph is completely subjective – more than the rest – because we talk about design. The Audi RS3 Sportback is not a compact discreet, not even in the unit that I was able to taste the summer of last year. If your image doesn’t catch your attention, so will the sound that emanates from its gigantic exhaust pipes are oval, that peek under your rear diffuser. The Audi S3 – with the appropriate settings – it is much more discreet, more elegant. Only its four exhaust pipes set it apart slightly from an Audi A3 with a kit S-Line.
it Is clear that the Audi S3 is that I liked it more than the Audi RS3 Sportback, but I also recognize that the A3’s more powerful, has unique qualities that we cannot overlook, and that makes it one of the compact sport’s most special moment.
1) 400 HP to all public
The Audi RS3 Sportback has 367 HP and your face wash probably get to 400 HP. And with all, are to 400 HP for all audiences. 400 HP that are left tame and whose implementation leaves us to go very fast without putting us in any danger. Their grip seems to have no limit and the system of all-wheel drive quattro does not allow loss of control. Few cars are so powerful they are so easy to carry fast – the 450 Nm of torque from its engine 2.5 TFSI helpful – and make us believe riders rally.
2) A sound of Group B
the engine of the Audi RS3 Sportback is a time bomb. It is without a doubt the best of the car. It is a 2.5 TFSI five-cylinder, with a sound that seems to have been shaped with the aim of imitating those Audi Sport Quattro that terrorized the masses in the rally of the Group B. it Is a sound full of personality, unique in the market – Volvo has already abandoned the five-cylinder engine – with a sound that none of their rivals – they all have four – cylinder manages to replicate. A 10 in this aspect for the RS3.
3) A box of double clutch of the latest generation and seven relationships
Another of the advantages of being the flagship of the sporty compact in the Audi is that the Audi RS3 Sportback equipped with a gearbox S tronic seven relations and a double clutch, bathed in oil. The Audi S3 must conform with a box S tronic six-sex, the more veteran and with a few developments short criminalizing its consumption of fuel, without the seventh in relief of his older brother. Is a gearbox that only the Volkswagen Tiguan and Passat with engine 2.0 TDI twin-turbo 240 HP used outside of Audi.
