In its 41 years, 20 of them winning the life behind a steering wheel, the austrian has decided that enough is enough and want to say goodbye to the competitions, as it has done Sussie Wolf this past week.
Alex Wurz began in lower categories like karting, Formula Ford, Formula 3 German, etc, until climbing up the Formula 1. There, in 1997 obtained a contract with Benetton, firstly as a test pilot and then as owner. After its tour in Benetton, would also work praa McLaren in 2005 and the following year portfolio by Williams to be the third pilot and then uploaded as pilot in the next season.
2008 would be hired by another team as a test driver, this time the team Honda Racing F1, but in 2009 would disappear this team to become Brawn GP with a Mercedes engine and Wurz remained occupying the same position. After this period of F1, also tried his luck in Le Mans with Peugeot and later with Toyota, his current team. In this period the WEC has achieved very good results, and being one of the champions more young people, something that in F1 is resisted with an 8th as best-placed.
Wurz has had words of thanks and reviewing his career as a pilot, recalling in particular the stage in the F1. Although Alex will not leave the world of the engine, it will only stop competing, because they want to collaborate on projects to improve the safety on the road, design of layouts of circuits for racing, etc, As he has commented, “you will see Me still, just without the monkey“.
