The Spanish army continues to grow in the Blancpain GT Series 2016 and with greater relevance in the ‘Endurance Cup’. To the already confirmed Andy Soucek (Bentley), Albert Costa (Jaguar), Lucas Ordoñez (Nissan) and Miguel Toril (Mercedes-AMG), is now added a fifth sword. Antonio Garcia will compete with an Audi R8 LMS of Team WRT, formation of trust for the brand from Ingolstadt in the category and benchmark competitive in the championship. The presence of the pilot in the ‘Endurance Cup’ is inspired by the good relationship that seems to link to Audi Sport and Corvette Racing, with various ‘exchanges’ of pilots.
In fact, the presence of Antonio Garcia on the Audi R8 LMS is only the latest sample of these rotations between the two marks and that without going further allowed Mike Rockenfeller and Marcel Fässler, Audi drivers in the DTM and in resistance, to compete in the last edition of the 24 Hours of Daytona, in addition to also be present in the 12 Hours of Sebring. For this reason, and following its inclusion in the first event of the ‘Endurance Cup’, is not ruled out that Antonio Garcia be able to contest the 12 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, quote queen of the Blancpain GT Series.
In any case, and in the face of the 3 Hours of Monza, which will take place between the 23rd and 24th of April, Antonio Garcia will compete in the Audi R8 LMS #28 next to Nico Müller and Will Stevens. A level team formed by three pilots with great experience. However, Nico Müller is an official driver for Audi in the DTM, while Will Stevens is taking their first steps in endurance and GT after competing in Formula 1 during 2015 with Manor. Antonio Garcia brings talent and a track record with three wins partial in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and an outright victory at the 24 Hours of Daytona.
