2016 promises to be one of the seasons most exciting of the Blancpain GT Series, every time that the championship organized by the Stéphane Ratel has managed to gather within its walls one of the lists of registered most complete that can be found. 38 cars will participate in the appointment of the inaugural of the ‘Sprint Cup’, while 57 will be at the premiere of the ‘Endurance Cup’. In total, the championship is secured the participation of 31 GT3 in the ten tests that make up the global calendar of the Blancpain GT Series, among which are represented 11 brands.
Starting with the ‘Sprint Cup’, six will be the Audi R8 LMS placed in competition for the WRT, team ‘unofficial’ Audi, highlighting the presence of Laurens Vanthoor, Robin Frinjs, Will Stevens or René Rast between their pilots. The German firm will also be represented with the two units of their intimate partner Phoenix Racing with two other cars from Sainteloc Racing, in addition to the unit of ISR. Bentley Team M-Sport competes with two Continental GT3, while McLaren bet for an official project under the umbrella of the team ‘Garage 59’ with two McLaren 650S GT3. The Lamborghini Huracán GT3 are Attempto Racing (3) and GTR Grasser (3).
The new Mercedes-AMG GT3 will have a large presence in the category with the participation of three units of HTP Motorsport, and three other of AKKA ASP, with the team that competes Felix Rosenqvist. This dizzying and giant registered list of the complete the BMW M6 GT3 of Rowe Racing and Boutsen Ginion, the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 driver by the so-called ‘Nissan GT Academy Team RJN’ and by the Ferrari, divided half way between the 458 Italia GT3 and the newly released 488 GT3, with AF Corse managing a unit of each model. In the ‘Endurance Cup’ this large bet of the structures already mentioned as WRT, Phoenix, Sainteloc, Bentley Team M-Sport Nissan GT Academy Team RJN AF Corse, Garage 59, HTTP Motorsport oAttempto Racing. In addition to the entry list is completed with other private teams and the inclusion of new brands which still improve more this multi-faceted 2016. In this aspect it emphasizes the presence of the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 of the Oman Racing Team and the possible arrival of Renault in the hand of Monlau Competition with the R. S. 01, or even of XK Jaguar GT3 Emil Frey Racing.
While on the ‘Sprint Cup’ there will be no Spanish representatives, in the series of resistance there are at least three drivers already confirmed. Lucas Ordonez will compete in one of the GT-R NISMO GT3 with Alex Buncombe and Mitsunori Takaboshi. In the Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Black Falcon found Miguel Toril alongside Maro Engel and Oliver Morley and finally as a pilot officer, Andy Soucek will race with Bentley. These three drivers can be added in addition to Albert Costa if finally the Jaguar XK GT3 lands in the category, Dani Juncadella in the 24 Hours of Spa and some other national pilot with Monlau.
