Since several months ago we near the upcoming launch of the Mercedes-AMG Project One. A model hiperdeportivo with technology extracted directly from the Formula 1. Engine, chassis and aerodynamics will come derived from the “great circus”. There is No doubt that it will be a vehicle brutal, both for performance and for price. Now it seems to be that Audi Sport has been bitten by the bug and from Ingolstadt are considering creation of a similar car.
“Ass I see, ass I want to”, we could say. But, is it a problem for us that brands may decide to develop and launch cars of this type? Certainly not. Much will need to see the word of Stephan Winkelmann, previous CEO of Lamborghini and current responsible for Audi Sport. Winkelmann has talked recently with our colleagues from Car Advice, who has made some statements very interesting for those who love this kind of vehicles even in several lifetimes could afford them.
“Coming from a brand where we already did this in the past and raise it to a new level… if the car has a very limited with a high price to test the value of the brand might be a good idea”, declared. And that is, if Mercedes can carry out with the Project One and Aston Martin with the RB 001, why Audi could not take advantage of a similar strategy? The investment cost will be very high, yes, probably more of what they earn by selling all the units provided, but the brand image sometimes is worth more than the cost of the investment.
Winkelmann made it clear that there was nothing confirmed and that he was speaking of a hypothetical case, but that saw-power on Audi Sport for that type of car. When asked by our colleagues about whether the project could be shared with Lamborghini in order to share the expenses, his response was clear “no, no, no”. The Project One of Mercedes-AMG will surpass the barrier of 1,000 HP, how many would be able to draw on the Audi?
