This German company, with headquarters in Kempten, was created in 1970 by Johann Abt, a racing driver of Abarth. It was not until 2002, when ABT, next to Audi created the TT-R, used in the DTM German, and won the title that year for the French rider Laurent Aïello.

Audi would be, for the moment, the one German mark in the championship, although the BMW has a collaboration in the technical aspects with the american team Andretti Formula E Team (the same team with which Alonso raced in the 24H of Indianapolis), and in addition, the Safety Car in this category it is the BMW i8. Mercedes could not be left behind, and are considering the entry into the Formula E season 2018-2019, which would be a great news for boost, even more, this new category of cars.
Audi, which has been involved indirectly in the Formula E from the start of this category, in 2014, in support of ABT Sportsline, will take control by creating the Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler Team. They are developing a new gear train for the new season.
“That Audi is the first German brand to be fully involved in the next season of Formula E is a clear commitment of our brand with electric mobility,” said Peter Mertens, a member of the Technical Development Department of Audi.
The affirmation of Peter Mertens is nothing more than a ratification of what we have been talking about a few days ago, the brand from Ingolstadt will electric and hybrid before 2020, with new models and new variants of existing ones.
