Esteban Ocon will be the next 28th of August at Spa-Francorchamps
the twenty-fourth pilot to take part in the Championship of the World
Formula 1, 2016. The French driver will take over Rio Haryanto, who has competed with the Manor until the last Grand Prix
Germany.
Born in Évreux, Normandy, Esteban Ocon began his career
sport in karting during the 2006 season, when I was
nine years of age. In his first serious experience, finished eighth
in a championship Minime of France in which took part, among
other, Pierre Gasly -current pilot test of Red Bull and rival
Daniil Kvyat for a place at Toro Rosso in 2017-. The year
next, Ocon returned to repeat in the championship, taking the
victory with enough advantage over the second classified. In 2008
he returned to proclaim himself the winner, in the category cadet.
In 2009, ascended to the category of KFC and started to compete at the level
international, getting in the following year the second place in the
prestigious Trofeo Margutti and in 2011, the runner-up position in the WSK
Euroseries, only surpassed by Max Verstappen and in front of pilots
the likes of Antonio Fuoco, Lance Stroll, Alex Palou or Charles
Leclerc.
First contact with the cars
2012 was the year of his debut in single-seaters, entering the
team Koiranen to contest two championships in the Formula
Renault 2.0: Eurocup and the Alps. In both championships he got to the
least one podium during the season. The following year, Ocon alternated
the NEC with the Eurocup, in which he was one of the main
title contenders, already with the computer ART, the present head of
Renault F1. During the season, he managed three podiums and his first
victory in the meeting of his country in Le Castellet. The championship is
he escaped finally, finishing the season in the third square in front
to an old acquaintance: Pierre Gasly.
His duel with Verstappen in the European F3 Championship was spectacular.
In 2014, Stephen became the face of which, so far, has been the
biggest challenge of his career. In parallel to its first
contact with Formula 1 as a pilot test of Lotus and
a participant in one of the free practice sessions of the Grand
Award of Abu Dhabi, the French won the European Championship
Formula 3, meeting with some exceptional Tom Blomqvist and Max
Verstappen. Ocon made his debut in the category and Verstappen in the
single-seaters, but both delighted the fans with a superb
exhibits on the track, something that would put them definitely in the
radar of Formula 1. Mercedes wanted to sign Verstappen, but Network
Bull stepped forward to offer Max a pilot seat holder in
Toro Rosso.
After a hard battle with Verstappen, a new title in GP3
For his part, Esteban Ocon continued his training, wrestling
the GP3 in 2015 and picking up the victory again, as a rookie,
in front of Luca Ghiotto and Marvin Kirchhöfer. Meanwhile, your pairing
with the Formula 1 continued, and after a year as a pilot test with
Force India, Mercedes decided at the end of the season to add to his
young driver program, giving a calendar of testing with
the team of F1 and the seat of the champion for that year in the DTM:
Pascal Wehrlein.
This year, in addition to his participation in the championship
German cars, Ocon has participated in numerous sessions of free practice on with Renault F1, in addition to participating in some test with Mercedes. Now, as part of their training, both brands have agreed to assign to Esteban to Manor, the team that Pascal Wehrlein compete from the start of the season.
