In the mid of the last month of October, BMW will introduce the new generation of its sedan of medium size, the BMW 5 Series, 2017. This is the seventh generation of the German model, among the previous six has already accumulated more than 7.6 million units sold. Today, the bavarian manufacturer shows us all the details of the family version this model, BMW 5-Series Touring.
Is the body all-rounder of the range, improving in comfort, and in load capacity with respect to the variant sedan. Leads on the market nothing less than 25 years, and is the fifth generation of the 5 Series that have this body Touring. Will debut officially in the Geneva motor show, although we already have the data and most important details of this family, as well as a good number of images.
first of all, the exterior dimensions of this new model are 4,94 meters long, 1,87 meters wide and 1.50 meters high. This means that you earn almost 4 cm of total length, 1 cm in width and 1 cm in height. The distance between axles will be almost 3 meters, with 2.975 mm These new heights will grant a more spacious interior than its predecessor.
As is usual in the family, the frontal area is identical to the model from which it is derived, whether a compact or a sedan as in this case. Therefore, the main changes are in the three-quarters rear.
roof has a greater length, taking much more in the fall and doing it in a way that is more abrupt than in the sedan but also very neat, with a small spoiler on the rear window. In the side images you can see these details as well as the greater length of the rear overhang.
BMW is a true expert in the design of the hatchback family. A few years ago, this type of car were not too pleasing to the eye, but what is certain is that today in some cases are just as appealing as the models from which they are derived. In this way, we are faced with a lagging behind than that of the sedan, but you get to keep that blend of elegance and sportiness typical on the German firm.
interior Design and trunk
the design of The cabin is identical to that of the BMW 5-Series of three volumes, so we tiptoe in order not to repeat exactly the same thing which we discussed some months ago (see BMW 5-Series 2017).
Where if we find significant differences is in the trunk. From the outside we can access in two different ways, the cargo space: opening the gate fully, or only by lifting the rear window. The trunk has a maximum capacity of 570 liters. They are only 40-litres more than the sedan, but will be a lot more usable being able to stop and pick up objects with greater ease and, in addition, we can load it up to the ceiling. For all this, really gets a much greater capacity, as well as a greater practicality. If folded down the seats, an operation that can be performed in proportions 40:20:40, the cargo volume increases to the 1,700 litres.
At least to his arrival, the BMW 5-Series Touring will be available with the same offer mechanics that his brother of the sedan body. In this way, we can recognize four different mechanical, two petrol and two other diesel. They will all be supercharged with the system BMW TwinPower Turbo.
The least powerful of the family of gasoline will be the 530i Touring. With 4-cylinder, 2,000 cc and over, this mechanism generates 252 HP and 350 Nm of torque. This energy is sent to the rear axle, having passed previously by an automatic gearbox Steptronic 8-speed.
The second motor gasoline is the 540i xDrive Touring. This mechanic has a block of 6 cylinders that add up to 3 liters of cubicaje. Deliver to 340 HP and 450 Nm of torque. As you have seen, it is a variant xDrive, which distributes this energy among the four tires. Your gearbox will also be automatic Steptronic 8-speed transmissions.
Already in the range diesel, the more modest will be the 520d Touring. 4 cylinders and 2 liters of cubicaje to generate 190 HP and 400 Nm. Of series will incorporate a manual gearbox of 6 gears though you can optionally request automatic Steptronic 8-speed. At least at launch, will only be available with rear-wheel drive.
To complete the range of engines we find the 530d Touring, which may be chosen both with rear-wheel drive as with the integral xDrive. In this case we speak of a 6-cylinder 3-liter that develops 265 HP and a massive torque of 620 Nm. Necessarily we will have to associate it with the automatic change-above-mentioned 8-speed.
This BMW 5-Series Touring will make its first public appearance at the Geneva motor show in the month of march, though the beginning of your marketing is planned to mid-year 2017.
