get used to the car has been a challenge at first, but at the end of the day I was really comfortable
McLaren seems to have found the reliability that craved since the preseason and that has enabled the young brit to steal part of the spotlight to Robert Kubica, getting a time faster than Fernando Alonso in qualifying of the Grand Prix held four days before, although with the help of the compound ultrablando, that it was not available in the competition. “I have completed all the tests that the team has asked me and everything has gone well. Get used to the car has been in some way a challenge at first, but at the end of the day I was really comfortable. I have completed a lot of laps and I enjoyed the experience”.
McLaren, pleasantly surprised
Eric Boullier, for its part, has been impressed with the performance of Norris, not only for having been to only two-tenths of Sebastian Vettel, but for his methodology of work. “Lando, we have been impressed with their maturity, professionalism, and speed and has adapted to the car very quickly in his first time with the MCL32. Their exchange of information with the engineers has been valuable and necessary, it is certainly an asset to our lineup of test pilots, not to mention that he is a potential star for the future”.
in Addition Boullier wanted to highlight the step forward taken by McLaren, taking advantage of the reliability that the third specification of the Honda engine has provided by order. “I’m delighted to say that we’ve had another very productive day for McLaren-Honda and Lando Norris. We have completed a good number of laps without any major problems and we’ve made great progress with our programme of test”.
Satoshi Nakamura, Chief Engineer of Honda, was also expressed in the same line, highlighting the progress in terms of performance, manoeuvrability and reliability. “We have continued with the evidence of the first day, related to the performance and the maneuverability of the thruster unit. The team incorporated new elements after the break of noon, by delaying slightly the return to the track. We were also able to collect valuable data to improve the performance and reliability to be able to make a good start to the second half of the season”.
