The latest evolution of the Honda engine was tested for the last time at the Malaysian Grand Prix, in which Fernando Alonso performed the checks in the two days of free practice on Friday. Subsequently, that engine was saved for re-use in Suzuka and, after the disappointing ranking of the team, Honda decided to introduce it also in the car of Jenson Button, and as well penalize you in a race in which there were no aspirations of getting to the points.
The test of this engine has been satisfactory and has allowed the team to extract more performance of the same, though not because to give more power, but because it is able to reach closer to its limit. “reliability helps performance, because it means that you can run with a more aggressive strategy”, said Jenson Button on statements gathered by Autosport. “So that helps in the performance of race, yes, but classification should not be different”.
Back to the right path
, Eric Boullier does not lose the hope to continue the good run of results despite the disappointment of Suzuka. For the French, “the path does not fit our chassis and obviously the engine is not yet at the level of Mercedes. So the combination of both things led to a difficult weekend for us,” admitted Boullier. “But as the pilots said, at some tracks we’ll be surprisingly better for the same reason. we Can better exploit the thruster unit, we can also use the car differently, where we know that we are strong and we can, perhaps, be best under certain conditions”.
