Citroën outside the WRC 2016, again in 2017 and leaves the WTCC

Citroën will not have official program in the WRC in 2016. The manufacturer has confirmed officially the plans for the future of their sports projects. The brand abandons the World of Rallies in the season 2016, but this is not a goodbye is final. Citroën Racing will return to the WRC in 2017 with a new World Rally Car based on the new technical regulations introduced in the championship, presumably on the basis of the Citroën C3. For his part, will only have two Citroën C-Elysée officials in the WTCC in the next season, for the champion ‘Pechito’ López and Yvan Muller.

Starting from the WRC, Citroën will not have official team in the WRC 2016. This situation is not new, as in 2006 nor had any formal training. Then the Citroën present in the category were managed by Kronos Racing, a private team that allowed the French brand to focus on the development of the Citroën C4 WRC, the car that later gained many triumphs and successes of the hand of Sébastien Loeb. The situation could be repeated in 2015 and there’s a Citroën DS3 WRC in the World, could be managed by PH Sport. The team managed multiple DS3 WRC in the last few years.

Citroën has not revealed whether its absence as a training officer is absolute or is associated with the development of a project in private hands. The statement leaves the door open to a possible team semiofficial, but the only thing that is clear is that this bet will certify its long-term commitment to the WRC. Will return in 2017, with a new World Rally Car, and with renewed energy. Citroën also has been reported that you will pass with their current pilots. Kris Meeke and Mads Ostberg should seek their future far away from Citroën, at least for the moment.

season in the championship, but it will do so with a bet weakened.

two are the only official drivers that the Sébastien Loeb leaves the WTCC
and the structure Citroën Racing to focus on his new bet
