This week, the DGT has made an interesting announcement, that brings us a little closer to the European Union: they the stickers that discriminate against the cars for its levels of pollution. For years in the EU makes such a categorization, depending on the level of emissions of pollutant gases: oxides of nitrogen, particulate matter, carbon monoxide, etc
The stickers are not compulsory
In other words, do not take into account the carbon dioxide (CO2), which is a gas present in the air common result of the breathing of living beings, the processes of combustion, etc, Technically speaking, CO2 is not a pollutant, but if it rises its concentration in the atmosphere produces the dreaded greenhouse effect, and therefore the global warming.
We have been considering, erroneously, that the greener cars were the less CO2 emitted. There may be a relationship between one thing and another, but it is not the only factor to consider. If we have a gasoline and a diesel, and both emit 100 g/km of CO2, it is more likely that the gasoline emits less pollutants per kilometre travelled.
The cars that have this feature will have the maximum mobility allowed by the authorities
|Sticker||Type of car|
|Blue / Zero emissions||Any model plug-in (*) or hydrogen fuel cell|
|ECHO||Hybrids do not plug-in and transformed to gas, Euro 4 onwards in any case|
|Green||Gasoline Euro 4 onwards, Diesel Euro 6|
|Yellow||Petrol Euro 3 Diesel Euro 4-5|
|Without sticker||Gasoline Euro 2 or lower, Diesel Euro 3 or lower|
(*): plug-in hybrids with less than 40 km of autonomy will category ECO
The first owners to receive the stickers will be the users of cars zero-emission local: electrical, electrics, extended-range, plug-in hybrids and hydrogen fuel cell. Corresponds to the blue sticker, more clean, and less restrictions of the circulatory system you are going to affect you.
The emissions of these cars are non-existent or very low. A plug-in hybrid can be driven with zero emissions, but for a limited time, then you need to pull of a combustion engine are conventional. The same can be said of electrical generator, such as the BMW i3 REX or Opel Ampera. If their owners know anticipate, they can move with batteries at the places where the motors cannot be turned on.
Before the disappearance of almost all aid to buying for these cars, come as good news for the pioneers. There will be offset a higher initial cost if it is possible to have more mobility in episodes of high pollution, or, simply, more facilities to live in an urban area, historical.
The stickers ECO will have additional benefits to the gasoline and diesel Euro 6
The second group benefited is that of the ECHO, where they get the hybrids are not plug and adapted to gas, both LPG as CNG/GLV. As it is raised the standard, single-serve models Euro 4 or a more modern, and with the conversion made in the factory. The “converts” will probably have to do paperwork, but will have to wait for the BOE to know.
The number of beneficiaries is much higher than that in the blue sticker. Input all the hybrids from Lexus, Toyota (Prius II onwards), Honda, Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, BMW,… can wear the badge. By what has been seen, in some circumstances, these cars will be able to use the lane Bus/HOV of the A-6 in Madrid, although only one occupant.
Anybody who knows how to put the A-6 in rush hour, despite the nearly 36 kilometres with four lanes per direction, will appreciate what we are talking about. For years the owners of these models, which pollute less than normal, have not had advantages very relevant to those that use conventional engines.
¿Could affect the system of the stickers to the enrollment.?
Yes and no. Any gasoline and diesel new, that meet the Euro 6 legislation, you opt to the sticker green. In that sense there is no difference, but it can stimulate a little bit the sale of models that use blue sticker or ECO, as they will have fewer obstacles to travel in the future, and that has its importance.
The impact can be higher in the market second-hand and second-hand
The diesel Euro 4 and Euro 5 will have yellow sticker, as the gasoline Euro-3. This sticker will not have just benefits, unless you are talking about areas where it is an indispensable requirement for circular. In places like Italy or Germany are not accessible to some urban centres, if not at least with the sticker, equivalent to the Spanish.
The system that arrives in Spain is traced to the there are in Germany for years. In that sense we have to speak of a progress. Those who make the effort to buy greener cars have to suffer a form of positive discrimination, is something that bears watching in countries that are more advanced than Spain in this matter.
The final thing would be that poking hand to the tax of circulation. Right now the bonuses are in the hands of each consistory, without a criterion of the state. With the stickers, it is easier to make such discrimination, and reward system for those who have the least polluting. Total, the classification has already been done.
