Consumption test: Opel Corsa 1.3 CDTI (95 HP) part 2

In the first part we had been in the following situation: the fuel gauge brand almost a quarter, and according to the computer, it can be done 489 miles. Enough to return… if both indicators do not lie. And I have a height difference of 700 meters, and the consumption goes up…

I get up to Madrid with three other adults and luggage, so the challenge is more interesting. There was a relative risk of having to stop to refuel before arriving, but I gave him a vote of confidence in the 1.3 CDTI. We are already old acquaintances.

Trying not to think of the topic, I will tell you about the assists the driving of the new Corsa. The unit tests did not include the Warning System Dead Angle (SBSA), what I missed, even though I am of those who look in the rear view mirror before changing lanes. Yes I had all those systems based on the camera front, that is to say, the Opel Eye.

Blessed driving aids

With the Recognition of Traffic Signs (TSA) I don’t have to remember what the last speed limit indicated by the signs. Not only can I put a speed limit to the car, also I have an acoustic alert and a visual if I spend another voluntary limit. Playing with all this, it is more difficult for us to pay a fine.

If at any time I a distraction, Warning of Involuntary Change of Lane (LDW) I will call the attention if you floor the lines of the road, but if the music is too high is of no use. As soon as the sun goes, the Wizard of Light Long (HBA) greatly increases the quality of vision, with hardly deslumbrase to a pair of conductors in several hours of driving. The headlights are xenon, optionally, something unthinkable a few years ago.

lastly, the Indicator of Distance (IDF), which helps us to maintain a proper distance with respect to the that are ahead of them. If we don’t do well, we can take a notice of Warning of Frontal Collision (FCA). A few flashing red lights will be above the steering wheel, the car will not slow only, but the next time we do not glue both.

The diesel reached the first reserve, almost as “fast” that the 1.0 SIDI Turbo gasoline

The fuel gauge continues to fall, and more than 100 kilometers of Madrid is just a square, but the autonomy decreased at a rate very linear, it seems that I will get it. The consumption is very stable, has not exceeded the 4.6 l/100 km

Arrives the notice, low fuel level with 176 kilometers of remaining range, at that time remaining in the reservoir some 8 litres. Finally, I get to Atocha, where you terminate one of my companions. Mission accomplished, yet it is not necessary to refuel. But there are still a few more kilometres.

To 910 kilometers of the partial gets to the second warning of low level of fuel, which is not removed from the screen whatever you do. Brand 44 kilometers of autonomy, and are about 3 liters in the tank. Yes, now is the time to take stock.

Depending on the driver and driving conditions, the 1.0 SIDI can spend the same as the diesel, o less!

When I get to the gas station, I have an average consumption of 4.4 l/100 km according to the computer, and a cumulative average of 89 km/h. The actual consumption is 4.6 l/100 km, the computer is quite accurate, and the media quite reasonable. Now, what happens with the petrol? Entered first reserve to 850 kilometres, the difference is pyrrhic, 60 kilometers!

In the five doors, the engine 1.0 SIDI 116 HP costs only 350 euros more than the 1.3 CDTI 95 CV. It is true that the diesel spends a tad less, and the fuel is cheaper. The difference will be cancelled by preventive or corrective maintenance. I am almost about to say that the CDTI de 95 CV has lost all sense.

In my opinion, it is quite clear, it is not worth to buy a diesel. In addition, the gasoline weighs 60 kg less, it is more pleasant to drive and over drive more: 2 seconds faster in acceleration 0-100 km/h. If the next generation of the Corsa, the F, has no diesel engines, no one would miss them. You no longer need.

The test continued until a final figure of 1.404,6 miles, half-declared to be of 4.3 l/100 km at an effective average of 79 km/h since I picked up the car. That means 1,000 miles per tank full until it stops for lack of fuel, 4.5 l/100 km actual consumption. In good hands the 1.0 SIDI can do the same, although the total average of the test was 5,2 l/100 km

Before I leave, one last point about the tires. It is true that the cars of the press have a deal and trot more demanding than usual, but I was struck by how they fried the front wheels. 20,000 km do not reach, and are not exactly cheap (100 euros or more each) in the gallery you can see it in detail. I see more reasonable about 16 inches in this car.

The Corsa is a comfortable car, but there are bumps urban by pass the rebound is too violent on the rear axle. Things start to point that you have made this time, I happened to generation D. The rest of the impressions reflected in the test of the Corsa Turbo are valid for this test, except for the access to the rear seats and, obviously, the engine.
