With a total of 7.2% of the competitors registered, Spain is the fourth
country with the most representatives in the Dakar 2016 after France, Holland and Argentina. Reason for review one by one all of the Spanish participants
they are going to take part in this edition of the raid of the world’s toughest. In the case of the categories of
cars and trucks, a total of 20 participants compete under the flag
Spanish, with four crews fully national in the category of
cars and two in trucks category. We’re going to know them all!
A total of eight cars have at least one crew member is English. By order of dorsal and as one of the favorites of the test, Carlos Sainz and Lucas Cruz are a couple in the Peugeot 2008 DKR16 #303. The Spanish rider is called to fight at least for the podium of the race in a category in which one of the challengers is also fluent in Spanish. At the wheel of the Mini All4 Racing #304 compete Nani Roma and Alex Haro. With the vehicle of reference, Nani Roma will look to repeat the victory of 2013.
With project more humble and aspirations more discrete, Xevi Pons will make his debut in the Dakar with a Ford Ranger. In this case, the former pilot of the WRC will not be co-driven by a Spanish and relies on the experience of the argentine Ricardo Adrían Torlaschi. With the bib #348 and a Toyota Land Cruiser compete a duet fireproof formed by Xavier Foj, and the argentinean Nacho Santamaría. The third and last crew completely Spanish is formed by Rubén Gracia and Diego Vallejo. Both compete with a Mitsubishi Montero promoted by Mitsubishi Spain in an exciting project, and with many warranties.
The three spaniards remaining work as co-pilots. In the Polaris RZR 1000 XP with dorsal #371 we find Rafael Tornabell. His expertise has been valued by the Italian Eugenio Amos to meet the challenge of the Dakar 2016. About the Toyota FJ Cruizer #398 appears Oscar Montano. Will work with the pilot bolivariano Julio César Roca. Finally, in the Toyota Hilux with number #401 the prescription is repeated as the bolivariano Alberto Rodrigo Gutiérrez bet by the Spanish Joan Rubí.
Between the heavy weights of the Dakar there are six trucks with Spanish presence and a brand that is committed to our drivers in a clear manner. In the Iveco Powerstar #501 Gerard de Rooy works in the co-Moises Torrallardona. The leader of the firm bet by the experience of Moses in the field of navigation. In the Iveco Powerstar #503 made her debut with the brand Ales Loprais, the major signing of the team and with Ferran Marco Alcayna for identical work. The third Iveco is the #518 of Pep Vila, Xavi Colomé and Marc Torres. An alignment veteran, but with illusion.
The second truck with a formation that is ‘100% English’ it is the MAN TGS 26480 team KH-7. In him competing Jordi Juvanteny and José Luis Criado, being remarkable the absence of the ‘third aboard the team’, as Enric González in this occasion not to take part in the Dakar. The goal for this crew is able to get the victory in the category, 6×6, mission that will fight without neglecting his chief work, the to do the assistance work of the Iveco of Gerard de Rooy and Ales Loprais. This same paper has Pep Vila and his crew.
In the DAF #547 is the Spanish Alberto Moreno, doing the work of a mechanic in a crew in which there are the French Patrice Garrouste and Jean Marc Berliner. For his part, Charly Rodriguez O’malley makes of navigator in the MAN #549 the frenchman Michel Saumet. By way of ‘bonus extra’, it is worth noting the presence of the pilot andorran Albert Llovera with the #521 of the team Bonver Dakar Project. Finally, his countryman Jordi Ginesta will be navigator of the colombian Juan Manuel Linares in the Man, DV 650 AE #544.
