Dakar 2016, stage 13: The winners speak

Toby Price has added to his first Dakar in the bikes and has become the first australian to win the test: “I Never thought that it would be possible to win this race in my second participation. To dedicate it to my family, my friends, my fans, to all those who support me in Australia. Winning in my second share is a record, but it is also amazing to be the first australian to do so. I have attacked when it was needed, when it was time, and I’ve taken care of the bike in the marathon stages, which are very important. I’ve also taken quite well to the navigation. I’m happy“.

Marcos Patronelli already knew what was to win the Dakar and has joined the third ‘Touareg’ to their shelves: “I’m very happy. We have lived a Dakar spectacular. We started with some bad luck, but then it all began to go better. We have shown a lot of consistency in Dakar. We have worked a lot. It is exciting the result. Has been an edition lasts. There was a part of the typical rally and other Dakar. In the part quick of the principle was not going very well, but in the second part I have marked the difference. This Dakar have also won the team and my brother. It is really amazing!”.

St├ęphane Peterhansel has returned to Peugeot to the top of the Dakar adding to its twelfth victory at the controls of the 2008 DKR16: “it Is extraordinary. There was a lot of pressure and now what we have achieved. We are very satisfied because we wrote a page in the history of Peugeot, thanks to the work of the team these last two years. I’ve always dreamed of to achieve this victory with a French manufacturer. I have a record of my wins and this is going to be in the Top 3. The last great challenge in my career was to get the same number of victory in cars than in bikes“.

Gerard de Rooy has added a second Dakar and was really excited: “it Has been great. For me, the truck, by the team. The work has been perfect and not only by the individual qualities our or by the strategy, which worked well, but by the environment that we have had. This is very nice. The competitors made mistakes, or have simply had bad luck. Kamaz has had a lot of problems, MAN has studded good days, but also days with problems. We attacked at the right time and we’ve had a little bit of luck. The only pity is that Loprais has been the only one who has not been able to finish”.
