Dakar 2016, stage 4: Laia Sanz, the guardian angel of Pela Renet

Laia Sanz became the guardian angel of Pierre Renet during the grueling fourth stage of the Dakar, the first day marathon in Jujuy. The pilot Catalan was found to ‘Pela’ Renet in the middle of the track, unconscious, after having suffered a serious accident, and didn’t think twice: he stopped his bike and ran to the aid of his rival wounded.

Ivan Cervantes was found with the scene minutes later, but Sanz told him, that he had everything under control and that she would wait next to Renet, a double world enduro, to the medical assistances. And that is, to more complication and while Renet was still unconscious, the ‘iritrack’ did not work for what Laia could not quickly alert the organization.

“I’ve scared a lot when I found ‘Pela’ lying in the road. In the first moment I have feared the worst. I have tried to contact the organization but not working the Iritrack. For this reason, the helicopter took half an hour.”

once evacuated Renet, the KTM rider is back on the march, although with more than 35 minutes late. The organization of the Dakar, however, has taken into account the sporting gesture of the runner, Spanish, and he has returned this time, just as she had on twitter:

in The end I have returned it 35 minutes and that puts me in 15th pos. Now, to rest. Good night! #Dakar2016 @dakar pic.twitter.com/Tylq2wyAMd
