stage 4 of the Dakar 2016 is special, since it is the first marathon stage of this edition. It has been a journey in a loop with departure and arrival to Jujuy with roads of sand and stones, 200 kilometres of links and 429 kilometres of special for motorbikes, quads and cars. The trucks have had a special 10 kilometres shorter. Today we have reached altitudes close to 4,000 metres. The particularity of the marathon stage today is that on arrival at the camp, the cars have been deposited in a closed park, making it impossible to manipulate the cars by the drivers. The only time to make repairs or review has been in the second link, very briefly.
In the stage of today motorcycle rider French Renet has suffered a fall shortly before the arrival to the finish of the special. Has been unconscious and has subsequently been airlifted to a hospital, where he has been diagnosed with a head injury. The pilot is stable and is not afraid for his life. Laia Sanz has stopped to help you, losing more than 30 minutes then the organization has been neutralized, recovering the pilot their original position on the stage.
Peugeot sweeps, again
Carlos Sainz, second in the stage today
The category of the car has clearly been dominated by Peugeot, which has placed the buggies of Peterhansel, Sanz and Loeb in the first three positions. Despres has been fifth, and only Nasser Al-Attiyah with his MINI and has broken the hegemony of the French team. Carlos Sainz has suffered today a prick, but in spite of this, he rode very fast, as in previous stages. the Dakar 2016 begins quite well for the French, that on its revival in 2015 did not get good results. This year the MINI’s are not clocking as good data.
On two wheels Joan Barreda has become to be the fastest in the stage today with difference, but like yesterday, has been penalized for speeding in a stretch-limited, and has been relegated to a fourth place (third overall). It has made Gonçalves, Benavides, and Faria liderasen the stage. Gerard Farrés has been eighth and Laia Sanz fifteenth.
In the quads to the peruvian Alexis Hernandez has been imposed two heavy weights, such as Marcos Patronelli, and Ignacio Casale, although these are third and first overall, respectively. Between the trucks Gerard de Rooy has led to the stage, followed by the MAN of Versluis and Stacey.
