Dakar 2016, stage 7: you Die a spectator run over by the French Lionel Baud


The Dakar 2016 already has added its first victim. The organization has confirmed that a spectator bolivian has died because of an accident that has had the French rider Lionel Baud in the 82 kilometer of the stage 7, held between Uyuni and Salta.

The bare-bones release of the ASO also explains that the circumstances are not clear, and officially it is not yet known if the spectator deceased was in a place inappropriate, it was imprudent of Baud, or, simply, the result of bad luck. However, the first information from the bolivian government aimed at the amateur, of 63 years, left the area for the spectators to cross the track, at which time the incident occurred.

“the medical service of the organization was only able to unfortunately see the death of the injured person. Advised by the organization, the bolivian authorities represented by the public ministry, went to the site with the helicopter of the organization in order to determine the circumstances of the accident”


Lionel Baud, age 49, has extensive experience in the rallies. Since 1992, takes competing so semi-private but constant in his native France, and in 2013 came to compete in the rally of Monaco and in the Alsace, with a Peugeot 208 VTi R2 and a Ford Fiesta RS WRC. Its main economic support is the people’s Bank of the Alps, of which he is president.

The deceased joins the long list of killed in the history of the Dakar. Since the first edition in 1979, when he died the motorcyclist, Patrick Dodin, have lost the lives of 64 people, including competitors, journalists, fans and people in the organization.
