Dakar 2016, the prologue: the Word of the winners

The stage prologue of the Dakar has had an abrupt ending by the accident of Guo Meiling, who has not been allowed to take the output to a good part of the cars and to all the participants in the trucks category. Despite this, the Dakar 2016 closed its first day with four leaders, as Joan Barreda and Ruben Faria have been completed at the same time in the motorcycle category. Bernhard Ten Brinke has been the fastest in the car with his Toyota Hilux and Ignacio Casale has earned the victory in the quads during the prologue.

To the end of the stage, Ruben Faria, explained: “this Is a short stage, not a real special in the Dakar. I’ve run well and I have dedicated myself to test the bike. Everything has gone well, the engine, the suspensions and the tires. It is good to know that tomorrow I’m going to get out in front. I’m 41 years old, but I feel good and the team Husqvarna has placed their trust in me and I have started well”.

For his part, Ignacio Casale was incredulous with his win: “I wasn’t expecting it. I have advanced at my own pace, quietly, without running risks. Not riding the quad for half a month. I am very happy to have won the prologue, and I hope that the rest of the stages are just as positive. It’s going to be a Dakar very open, with a very high level. We are eight possible title contenders. It’s going to be very interesting.”

Bernhard Ten Brinke surprised to X-Raid and Peugeot and has scored the first stage victory for Toyota: “It’s amazing! We have gone very quickly, without committing the slightest error. It is very well. They are only 11 kilometres away. The Dakar really starts tomorrow and it will be good to go ahead. The week is going to be very hard, with long stages and very high temperatures. In the end, the most important thing is to make a good Dakar, not to win the first stageā€.
