Renault Sport F1 Team had a quiet start in the GP of
Sochi, every time that their pilots were not able to pass the thirteenth position
in any of the two free practice sessions played during the day
Friday in Sochi. Despite this, the team has listed as productive a
day of Friday in Russia in the the most important development has been the debut of Sergey
Sirotking at the wheel of the Renault R. S. 16. The Russian pilot has been able to dispute the
FP1 before his countrymen on board of the car of Kevin Magnussen, which has
returned to the activity during the second free.
24 laps, a record 1:40.898 and a remarkable
thirteenth position have shot good debut for Sergey Sirotkin: “My
goal for today was to give the team what I wanted from this session. I tried
be very quiet despite the fact that it is very exciting to get to fly a
Formula 1 car. it is Always nice to see that your lap time is good,
but most important of all is that I felt comfortable with the car still at the
seat all comfortable that it should. I’m happy to have started this
programme with Renault Sport F1 Team in a positive way“.
Already in the FP2, Renault has returned to her alignment with normally
Kevin Magnussen in the car. The Danish, with some errors during the
session, has completed 41 laps to make up for the time away from the
car: “first impressions are good, the car is not so bad
here. The evaluation of the tires was my job during the FP2 as the
track was fairly constant during the entire session. there is a big difference
between the soft tyres and superblandos, with very low degradation. This
will cause the strategy to be very interesting during the race”.
despite the extensive work performed during the FP2, Kevin Magnussen recognizes that there are still things to analyze to improve the car: “We have a couple of things to work on before the practice session tomorrow morning, although I understand that the pace that we show today is not far away where we can. Hopefully, we can have a bit of luck in the ranking, to have no errors or problems and then to carry this performance into the race to take advantage of the opportunities presented“.
, Jolyon Palmer played both sessions. The
british pilot ended with a baggage of 62 laps of the layout of Sochi,
being the eighteenth in both sessions despite improving his fastest lap in the a
second during FP2, something that has not been enough for Palmer: “I have Not
been able to find a good balance, it is something frustrating. We have had a
good day in terms of reliability on both cars so that we have a lot
of data to be able to work on and improve for tomorrow. The track was pretty
slippery, but we have accumulated a large number of turns. We need to correct
the oversteer and the pace will come“.
