The ‘silly season’ DTM can live the most intense winter since BMW Motorsport came to the championship. The possible reduction from eight to six cars per brand opens the doors to a huge movement of pilots, although the first move might already be closed. According to various German media, with the publication ‘Motorsport Aktuell’ the head, Edo Mortara would be the first signing of Mercedes going into the season 2017 DTM. A movement very to keep in mind since the last time that a pilot is moved between manufacturers of the DTM was Jamie Green, who left Mercedes to join Audi at the end of 2012.
Mortara has been the pilot more regularly than Audi in the past three years. With six seasons of experience in the competition, always in the hands of the firm of Ingolstadt, the Italian rider has signed a great progresióndesde that was enrolled in the ABT Sportsline, training that in some way is the computer ‘official’ Audi. Since then he has not come out of the ‘top five’ of the DTM by signing two podiums in 2014 and a win and five podiums in 2015. In the present season the sum of two victories and two podiums, being the only rider who can snatch the title with Marco Wittmann.
While the managers of Audi Sport and Mercedes-AMG are silent and the pilot himself removes importance to rumours as he spends a few days with the family, what is true is that a jump of Mortara Mercedes-AMG would be a great bet for the manufacturer from Stuttgart to conquer the DTM. However, only Robert Wickens has been at the height of the demands of the championship, with permission of Paul Di Resta, a pilot much more veteran. In this aspect, Edo Mortara would be the perfect complement to a Wickens that builds up over the season two wins and three podiums.
