Today the security of the car can be divided into two types. On one side there is the safety active (that provided by systems such as ABS or ESP), and security passive (which provide seat belts or airbags for example). Because in these days the Group Fiat Chrysler Cars (FCA) is recalling 1.9 million of its cars due to problems with the passive safety.
cars affected by this call to review belong to the era pre FCA and post FCA. That is to say, are units manufactured in the united States the years between 2010 and 2014. The brands and models affected are the Chrysler the Sebring and 200, Chrysler Cirrus and Lancia Flavia (Chrysler 200 convertible redial for Europe). The brand Dodge has affected to the Caliber and Avenger. To finish the Jeep Patriot and Compass closed the list.
According to the brand the problem stood in the wiring which is involved in proper functioning of the airbags and belts security. The failure of this wiring could to prevent, on certain occasions, that in frontal collisions, or the belt pretensioners or the inflation system of airbags to work and, therefore, the occupants could suffer injuries of importance or even death.
In the united States the review of the models will be channeled through the NHTSA in order that the customers go by the official service center to fix this problem. In Spain, the DGT will be in charge of calling the owners and concertarles an appointment in a workshop of the Group FCA. In both of them, and of the form free, cases the wiring will be reviewed and, if necessary, would be replaced by a new system. We say new because FCA has indicated that this cabling and security systems were only used in those models and therefore the last models the group does not are affected.
Has today the Group FCA has already posted three of the dead and five wounded, directly related to this problem and are already looking at how to compensate to the victims and their families.
