Volkswagen is the main investigated, with nine models by performing tests of gases in and out of the lab
The federal German transport, the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA), is collecting data by means of portable equipment for measurement of gases. Want to check which brands have made traps, apart from Volkswagen, homologando models that do not meet the emission standard Euro 5 or Euro 6. These regulations set a limit of 180, and 80 mg/km of NOx, respectively.
Half a hundred of models (list at bottom of article) are being analyzed, there are manufacturers from germany and abroad. It is, therefore, of providing light on the shadows of the world of the approvals. One of those investigated is Opel, as in an independent test of the Zafira Tourer also came out of legal standards.
The KBA seeks more engines manipulated, that is, checks if there are large differences in the exhaust gas, depending on whether they are being tested in a bank of rollers (as in the approval) or in normal conditions of use. We can assume that Volkswagen will not be the only one affected.
According to Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH), Opel has also tampered with the emissions of the Zafira Tourer 1.6 CDTI, which the manufacturer denies “categorically”
Differences in the avoidable and unavoidable
The cycle of type-approval NEDC is based on the repetition of cycles urban cycle extra-urban. The test is no longer representative of the modern way of conducting, and the engines run at very low loads, are accelerations lentÃsimas. The engineers have designed the engines to have low power consumption in such conditions.
hence the proliferation of turbocharged engines and each time smaller displacement, that is to say, downsizing. In these conditions, the consumption will be very low, but in terms of most demanding usage, it’s not always improve when the engine or previous model.
therefore, although the engineers have not tried to defraud the system, there are differences in logical consumption and emissions when moving to real roads, where there are many aspects that the test can not simulate, or simulate very ineffective. That is what I call the inevitable differences.
Or the japanese manufacturers have been spared, what will come out successfully from the evidence of the KBA?
The crux of the issue is in the differences in avoidable, that is to say, that a programming hidden of the ecu exists only with the purpose of introducing little. Also, you can discover other types of traps, such as have swollen excessively tires, or oil mixed with diesel to lubricate the engine.
The KBA has already made more than half of the measurements, and we are waiting for the results. Of time report “levels of NOx partially elevated”, and is informing the manufacturers involved with the preliminary data obtained. Granted a right of reply.
If there are more manufacturers involved, the scandal will increase considerably, and can cause a great crisis in the industry, including more downs in the stock from these companies… or any other by contagion. Some must already be crossing their fingers in their central headquarters.
independent Studies, such as those from ICCT, verify that the type-approval and the actual performance of the car does nothing but walk away from 15 years ago
