Surely, Felipe Massa had envisioned a farewell to the Formula 1 brighter: After fourteen seasons, 250 grand prizes, eleven victories, 41 podiums and 16 fastest laps (not to mention that title cruelly lost in 2008), the ninth place achieved in the Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi, which has been his last appearance, it may seem peccata minuta. But with the current level of competitiveness of Williams in the ranks and the absence of dropouts among the top eight at Yas Marina, it is, realistically, what is the maximum I could aspire to.

Massa, who had started from the tenth position, he maintained a duel starting with his teammate Valtteri Bottas, which took a few laps, to pass you at the end of the second DRS zone. But shortly after the finn suffered problems of suspension in his car that forced him to leave. Since that time, and with the Force India out of their reach, the goal was to take the ninth seat at McLaren Alonso, which managed to once completed their respective second pit stops. In the last laps, followed closely by the Spanish, who had opted for a different strategy, came to harass the Force India of Perez, but we ran out of time to try to pass the mexican.

I Am proud to have been fighting until the last lap in the same way that I did on the first lap of my first Grand Prix and I want to thank all of you who have been by my side throughout this journey. Thanks to the fans and Williams, whom I will continue cheering in the future, and to all those who have been a part of all that I passed. I finish my career with your head held high, as I started it.

, Bottas could not contain the disappointment of his early abandonment after having recovered two positions in the first laps, and only think already in the next season, after a 2016 nothing brilliant in that he has finished qualifying in eighth place, three places ahead of Massa.

It’s a shame to have finished the race after a few laps. When I was nine, I felt that something broke suddenly in the rear suspension and the car was made inconducible. We try to fix it, but could not be. Shame to finish the season as well, but that means that now I have many more wanting to come next year.
