In line with what we saw in the sessions of the Friday, Red Bull was close to the pole. Surely most of what they had hoped for, but barely a tenth of a second is what has deprived Max Verstappen of his first pole in the Formula 1. All this, in a qualifying session in which they were very, very on par with Ferrari, and even with the car Nico Rosberg, which gives hope to aspire to the second victory of the year.

while Verstappen will not come out from the first position on the grid, his second place is well worth a positive consideration. The pilot dutchman has managed to do this beat the record for longest-lived of youth still standing in Formula 1, the youngest pilot in the front line, which held the mexican Ricardo Rodriguez since its debut in the Italian Grand Prix 1961.

An excellent classification achieved despite not being able to roll in the last free practice by a mechanical problem that was resolved in time. Verstappen believes it did not have enough speed to get the pole, but hopes that his alternative strategy, coming up with superblandos, allows you to scale in that position extra.

“it Is a great feeling. As I crossed the finish, I could see the fans turning crazy and I knew it was a good lap. It has been a weekend of awesome, to see so many fans at the track and feel their support is amazing, so to be second on the grid is fantastic. Many thanks to the team for having responded so quickly and worked so hard to get out in the classification. It would have been very hard to get the pole position, the opportunity is always there if you’re so close, and we’ve been very strong in the second sector, but we lack a bit of top speed“.

“So tomorrow will be interesting with the different strategies between us, Mercedes and Ferrari. I hope that the superblandos give me a little more grip in the first laps and then I’ll stay a little behind to be sure, but that is my strategy. I will Probably have to stop a little bit before, but we have to wait and see how it goes the race”.

“two years Ago I started fifth and I won”

Your companion Daniel Ricciardo will take the output from the 5th place, the same from which, two years ago, won this same Grand Prix, as he himself has been in charge of remember. The australian managed to pass by the hair of the Q2 to have saved a last attempt with superblandos to leave on Sunday with soft, but in Q3 was overtaken by two Ferrari, which will use the same strategy.

Anything that takes the smile to Ricciardo, who believes out from a strong position to do battle in the race, and is confident that their car has the pace enough to reach at least the podium positions:

“I would have loved to take a little more of the car in Q3, but I’m not very disappointed for the race tomorrow, we are sufficiently close to the first. I would be less happy with a fifth in other circuits, but I’m not for two reasons: here you can fast-forward, and you can do a lot in the race with the tyres that we have this weekend. If you have a fast car, or you are a little more intelligent, you can give the result. Two years ago I started fifth and won”.

I’m happy to be past the Q2 with the soft, that was our goal. Have been a few minutes very tense, but we made it. We’ll see if it works or not, but that is what we wanted to achieve. Max has done it very well to start from the first row, but we have a strategy divided morning. We have talked about it before the classification; he wanted to start the race with the superblandos and I with the soft, so we’ll see what happens tomorrow”.
