GP Canada: Red Bull starts as a consequence of Ferrari in Montreal

The first day of Red Bull in Canada leaves feelings encouraging for the squad led by Christian Horner. In a path, a priori, more favourable to the interests of Ferrari, the team’s cars in the austrian surrendered at high level in the short runs, standing relatively close to the italians, and are optimistic of face to try to sneak in the second line this Saturday.

Max Verstappen was today the most solid team, finishing both free practice sessions in fourth position. The pilot Dutch, which tested with different compounds, is satisfied with the increase in the delivery of power from Renault, expects to be able to do battle in qualifying and believes that there is room for improvement:

The first impression of the new engine has been very positive, you’re always happy when you have more power. We have understood the configuration of the car and the sensations of the engine are good. We’ve done some good lap times and a long run that was promising. it Seems that Ferrari has a rhythm a little better here, so we still need to improve, but overall it has been a positive day”.

“tomorrow, you always want the tires softer on grading, so you’ll get, but there is a possibility of rain on Sunday, so we’ll have to wait to see what we do. I’m more or less happy with the balance that we have, now we just have to adjust a few small things and get some lap time there. This site is always very challenging, when passing through the pianos have feelings similar to those of the karts“.

In terms of Daniel Ricciardo, the australian pilot did not get such positive results the first day, especially in the morning session, in which he was only able to get the 11th best record. The situation improved in the afternoon, and he ended up among the first five, although again behind Verstappen.

Ricciardo, who comes to Canada after not having been able to materialise the two opportunities of victory that are presented in Spain and Monaco, has praised the pace in long runs of Mercedes, but hopes to be able to be relatively close to them at the time of qualifying:

“The day has been good; we can still find more speed, so we will work hard tonight to, hopefully, find some good solutions that put us on the among the four early morning and close to Ferrari. Mercedes looked solid today, your pace in long runs has probably been more impressive than that of its short runs, I think that’s where we need to improve. Our long runs may be better, mine as well as those of Max, so that is what we will see tonight.”

“it Seems that the weather could change on Sunday, so I will wait to see if it will affect something. I hope that the gap with Lewis is less than one second tomorrow, I’m not sure how much less, but I think we can trim a lot of the difference compared to today”.
