The circuit of Montreal did honor to its fame during the day on Friday, demanding riders the maximum concentration to avoid accidents and touches with the walls. Multiple were the outputs of the track and the rubbing, taking Felipe Massa is the worst part with his crash in the first curve during the initial session of training. On the technical side, the tires they came back to take prominence, with a degradation very low on the part of the compound ultra-soft.

Great duel that we were able to witness in the standings, with Lewis Hamilton getting the better of himself in this circuit, but with Nico Rosberg doing the same to stay less than a tenth. And could be even better if both had not made a mistake in the last lap and the German had time to stop by target before the end of the session for an additional attempt.

on Sunday, the rain threatened throughout the morning, arriving even to be shy in the preview of the race. But, at the time of the truth, the weather remained stable and Lewis Hamilton got his fifth win in Montreal. The English saw as Vettel was first placed in the start and Rosberg he was braking in the first corner, but he overcame it all to finish, winning with an excellent management of the tires and an error of judgment from Ferrari, who chose a two-stop strategy to believe that the degradation would be greater than it was.

In regard to the spaniards, Carlos Sainz capped a brilliant comeback from the twenty-plaza and Fernando Alonso was unable to avoid the limitations of the McLaren came to the fore and, in spite of shooting eighth in the early laps, finished out of the points.

below, we review a pilot to pilot the highlight of your weekend.

Mercedes

Lewis Hamilton

Friday: Very comfortable on this circuit, in which he has won four times. a Lot of analysis work of tyres.

Saturday: The changes that were made with respect to Friday, have not taken effect, and lost something of feeling with the car. In any case, it’s a track that, according to Hamilton, it adapts very well to his style because it consists in large measure in braking as late as possible.

Sunday: race Winner. Went fatal and was overtaken by Vettel. Rosberg put his height on the outside of the first curve, but the understeer that claims that it suffered, forced the German to get out of track and losing several positions. Then, he managed the strategy of a stop to perfection, controlling Vettel without problems.

Nico Rosberg

Friday: Problems to build temperature in the tires, especially in the first sector. Better in long runs than in qualifying conditions.

Saturday: In his second attempt in Q3, crashed in the first curve and had no time for a new attempt.

Sunday: 5th ranked 62 seconds of the winner. Lost many positions in the output after his duel with Hamilton, and then had a puncture slow, which forced him to stop in the pit lane. Suffered with the brakes and the consumer and, in the penultimate lap, he spun when he tried to overtake Verstappen on the chicane entry to goal.

Ferrari

Sebastian Vettel

Friday: The car was very nervous, but ended up satisfied with the day in a circuit that is conducive to that kind of behavior.

Saturday: very Pleased with the car, which allowed him to dream of the pole after the third session free. In Q3, the car was perfect, and he thought he could get it, but accelerated too hard out of the hairpin and skidded a little.

Sunday: 2nd place 5 seconds behind the winner. Something disappointed because you believed the car was to win, but they did not think that the tires will last so much and decided erroneously by the two-stop strategy. Went very well and was placed first, but at the first stop yielded the lead to Hamilton and could not get it back.

Kimi Räikkönen

Friday: None of the changes worked really well, had problems with the driveability of the car.

Saturday: a bit of everything, especially in the fork, that not managed to do well in any back. Disappointed with his performance staff.

Sunday: 6th place 63 seconds of the winner. The car behaved well in some parts of the circuit, but in other tyres were losing temperature and I suffered a lot. Then he had to save fuel and the situation worsened.

Friday: Very happy with the day, got very soon a good balance in the car.

Saturday: Problems to generate temperature in the front tires. Apart from that, the car behaved very well.

Sunday: 3rd ranked 46,4 seconds of the winner. It went well, gaining positions and, subsequently, the strategy of a stop did the rest. Soldiered on without errors and in a solid manner in the direction of the podium.

Felipe Massa

Friday: Accident in the first session that left him out in the first half-hour of activity. Still have to improve the tuning, but the improvement was noticeable in the afternoon.

Saturday: Very satisfied with his lap of Q3. regrets not to have had the same specification that Bottas after the accident on Friday.

Sunday: Abandonment on lap 35. Started running in seventh place, until a leak in the hydraulic system forced him to leave.

Red Bull

Daniel Ricciardo

Friday: a little worried about the performance of the Mercedes. Expected to improve race pace.

Saturday: Happy with the result in a circuit that is very unfavorable on the paper. He had luck on his last lap, because touched the wall of champions, but he returned to the traced and not lost much time.

Sunday: 7th ranked 63,6 seconds of the winner. Was overtaken by Verstappen on the come outand, although it was quicker with the ultra-soft, could not overtake him. At the first stop he put the soft compound, but he had a flat and ruined that set of tyres. From there, he was involved in the traffic and could not do more.

Max Verstappen

Friday: The equiibrio of the car is improved, but is not bad. Enjoyed the new engine for the first time, noticing the improvement.

Saturday: Expected to be among the first five, which is what we got although it doesn’t do a last lap excessively good.

Sunday: ranked 4th at 53 seconds of the winner. When he saw that he could not follow the leaders, maintained, tires and fuel-that is, until Ricciardo. Then pressed the pace, moving away from his companion. It was defended with a master’s of Rosberg in the final laps, as he himself, were the hardest of his life.

Force India

Sergio Perez

Friday: a Lot of difference between sessions, due to changes in temperature. The main objectives for the sabbath are the traction and stability under braking.

Saturday: Weighed down by having to use a set of more in Q1, leaving him with only one of ultra-soft new for the next session.

Sunday: 10th classified to 1 turn of the winner. It started out with the soft compound and it didn’t work, losing positions. Stalled the car at the second stop and lost the position with Kvyat, but was able to recover it later.

Nico Hülkenberg

Friday: The car behaved well from the first moment and improved exponentially as the track gained grip.

Saturday: Happy for not having committed errors in a circuit with so little margin with regard to the opponents. Squeezed everything the car was capable of giving.

Sunday: 8th classified 1 lap of the winner. I hoped to be sixth, but the low temperatures gave problems with the tyres and the car did not behave so well as in previous days.

Saturday: has Not participated in the classification after suffering an accident in the final minutes of the third free practice session.

Sunday: 16th ranked 2 laps of the winner. Low temperatures will complicated things a lot and not had the pace to finish higher up.

Jolyon Palmer

Friday: No problems during the day, focused on fine tuning and evaluate the compounds provided by Pirelli.

Saturday: Much more comfortable than the previous day, but frustrated for not having had time to give one more lap in Q1, as it was intended.

Sunday: Abandonment in the round 16. Touched with Sainz in the first turn and was trapped behind the Manor, but with clean air was satisfied with his pace.

Toro Rosso

Daniil Kvyat

Friday: Still needs fine tuning of the car, especially taking into account the few differences that there are in the center of the grill.

Saturday: Discontent for the way in which they prepared the flying lap, not warming up properly tires and losing two-tenths approximately. It meets the penalty imposed in Monaco of three squares on the grid.

Sunday: the 12th-ranked 1 lap of the winner. Placed the ultra-softs at the second stop, but they did not work and they degraded a lot in the fight with rivals, finishing outside of the points after being overtaken by Perez and Alonso.

Carlos Sainz

Friday: Program complete and good feelings. Was able to establish a good base on which to work on the sabbath.

Saturday: Tried to compensate for the little that was missing to the car to get into Q3 and is passed, impacting against the wall of the champions. Trust the rain to come back.

Sunday: 9th classified to 1 turn of the winner. Very happy after a good day out and a perfect strategy. After the first stop, made a series of five fast laps that caused him to win seats and then remained in the points with ease.

Sauber

Marcus Ericsson

Friday: Problems with the engine in the first session left him almost unprecedented. Recovered in the second, and the team will set up a new propellant for the Saturday.

Saturday: Came out later than the rest in your last attempt and the intermittent rain would hurt more.

Sunday: 15 classified 2 laps of the winner. The plan was to do one stop, but the ultra-soft did not work and had to change two with the soft.

Felipe Nasr

Friday: Situation similar to that of its companion, but it gave him time to make a good comparison between tyre compounds.

Saturday: We struggled to find the pace that the car had been in the free 3 and when you exit later than its rivals, could not improve with his second set of tyres by the rain.

Sunday: 18 classified 2 laps of the winner. A knock made him trompear in the first round and was to last, with no options of a comeback.

McLaren

Fernando Alonso

Friday: Lost some time on track by a false alarm of leakage hydraulic, was happy with the performance of the new turbo. Think that to enter in Q3 will be difficult in this circuit.

Saturday: Very happy with his lap of Q2 and the performance of the car. Took advantage of the slipstream of the Button in the straight line of the third sector to gain a tenth extra that we got in Q3.

Sunday: 11th classified in 1 turn of the winner. Went well and was placed eighth, but soon saw that his pace was not good enough to stay there and fell back to tenth place. On lap 17 he stopped to put the soft compound up to the end of the race, but lost five seconds extra in the operation. Ahead of Kvyat in the final laps.

Jenson Button

Friday: Had to wait to change the impeller after a leaking hydraulic (unlike Alonso) and lost time on track. Good behavior of the car in general, but with things that can be improved.

Saturday: Was improving the times of Alonso in his last attempt, but spent slightly braking in the hairpin and not told with the consequence that, yes, took advantage of the Spanish.

Sunday: Abandonment in the round 9. It started being faster than Alonso, who was soon reached, but its engine broke down on the long straight of the third sector.

Manor

Pascal Wehrlein

Friday: The changes that were made during the first session did not work and returned back in the second, improving the situation.

Saturday: Not expected to be as high, but took advantage of the engine power on the straights and good traction and stability under braking of the car.

Sunday: 17 classified 2 laps of the winner. He started well, but damaged the floor in the back of arrival to the grill and that made him lose tenths per lap and suffered a lot with degradation. Ericsson passed him, but was able to stay ahead of Nasr.

Rio Haryanto

Friday: Was adapted soon to the circuit, which knew not. The development of the taper was constant, and has a good base of face to Saturday.

Saturday: light rain made him lose control in turn 4 and ended up against the wall and with the damaged car.

Sunday: 19 classified 2 laps of the winner. In the first pit-stop he lost a lot of time and took to the track behind Nasr, who reached, but the blue flags prevented him from pressuring you.

Saturday: Without the ability to build temperature in the tires, something that at the beginning of the year it was possible. The situation is much improved in race conditions, so waiting for a comeback Sunday.

Sunday: 14th classified 2 laps of the winner. Remained with options of scoring to a problem with the front wing forced him to make a third stop.

Esteban Gutiérrez

Friday: Many problems with the ultra-soft in terms of classification, better with more fuel.

Saturday: Session very complicated by the intermittent occurrence of rain, but satisfied for having taken the maximum of the car.
