The man in charge of grazing the last round of classification was Esteban Gutierrez. The mexican driver ended the session in eleventh place, his best starting position of the season (12th in Monaco) and beat his teammate for the fourth time in the last seven rankings. The mexican driver said that he had enjoyed it, and believes his team has made the strides necessary for him to get his first points of the year:
“it Has been an classification of interesting. I was pushing all the time as I really wanted to get into Q3. I Took all the risks available that I could, and I have enjoyed it. I’m proud of the team, and of the happy manner in which we have worked. Shows that from Friday to Saturday we are making good progress, and it gives me a lot of confidence”.
“P11 is a good place to start, and leaves me eager to keep pushing the next time to enter Q3. Tomorrow I’m going to give it my all from the start, and fight until the end with the front to enter among the first 10″.
The sensations were totally opposed to Romain Grosjean. The French rider could only manage 15th, two tenths behind his teammate, and only beating the Renault of Jolyon Palmer, but will start from the 20th position after having replaced the gearbox, which was damaged in the last session free. The French driver said that the car lost pace in Q2:
“there has Not been a good weekend up to now. We have had our problems, and things have not gone as we wanted in qualifying nor. The guys have done a great job to be able to get the car after the problem with the gearbox. I was feeling more comfortable in the car, and I felt that we had a good opportunity. Unfortunately, the last attempt in Q2, just didn’t work. I don’t know what happened, there was no grip. It is difficult to find the proper balance, but we have a good top speed and, with luck, (the car) will behave so that we have a good race”.
