After the first attempt, both Carlos Sainz, as Fernando Alonso managed to time valid to pass to Q3, being the pilot of Toro Rosso eighth and McLaren’s tenth, with only 70 thousandths of a margin over the Force India of Sergio Perez.
Kimi Räikkönen, after his spin in the first attempt, was the first to go out on the track to make a second attempt, but returned to make a mistake in his lap, putting himself in clear danger of being eliminated. In his third and final attempt, less than a minute from the end, the Ferrari driver finally managed to score a time, placing it in sixth place temporary and leaving out Alonso.
But the Spanish driver of McLaren reacted to time, improving his time and standing finally in the ninth square, just behind Carlos Sainz, which also went in Q3. Not experienced the same luck Perez, Massa, Grosjean, Gutierrez, Kvyat and Magnussen, who completed here his participation in the classification.
