An accident is never pleasant news, but less so for a team with water to the neck at the economic level. However, Sauber has seen Marcus Ericsson suffered a violent blow against the barriers after stepping beyond one of the pianos during the third free session that was held with moisture in the asphalt. With the car shredded and Marcus Ericsson in the hospital passing a few routine tests, the team has only been able to compete with only with the C35 of Felipe Nasr, who has been eliminated in Q1. Both pilots will be in the race, as Marcus Ericsson has received the OK doctor.
Without large progressions on a sporting level, all the attention has fallen on Marcus Ericsson after suffering a heavy blow during the third free practice. In this aspect, and after several medical check-ups, the pilot swede explained: “Was a big accident. I went a little wide, surpassing the piano of the curve 15 and tap into the grass that was still a little wet. In that time I lost the car and suffered a big impact against the barriers. I went to the medical center, but with this impact, they decided to send me to the hospital”.
Except last minute change, Marcus Ericsson is eligible to compete in Sunday’s race, the swede seems to have come out unscathed from the mishap: “I have done many tests and things are in a good state. I feel a little sore, but everything else is fine. It is evident that I am disappointed not to be able to compete in the classification, but the most important thing is that I’m fine. I apologize with the team by the accident, since I have wrecked the car and I have caused a lot of work”.
Immersed in the dynamics of competition, will not have gone much better things to Felipe Nasr. The brazilian has finished in the position twenty-first, being eliminated in Q1: “In the first place, I’m glad that Ericsson is well after his accident. From there and on a more personal, the classification has been disappointing for me. I was sure to have been able to fight by ending some positions up in the day of today, I was very satisfied with the balance of the car to the classification”.
however, Nasr has not finished to find the rhythm in the time key: “My time with the first set of soft tyres was more or less well, but with the second set of tyres I had a lot of oversteer and I was not able to improve my time significantly. We have to understand the reason why we had a change like this in the stability of the car in just a few back. Will be a difficult race tomorrow, but the weather can also enter in game“.
