The season 2016 was not being a bed of roses for Esteban Gutierrez. In the thirteen first races, had not been able to access even a single time in Q3, and his locker of points remains at zero. But, in qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix, the mexican has taken good party package low downforce of the Haas and his new Ferrari engine and has been made with a tenth place on the starting grid, two places ahead of his teammate, Romain Grosjean (which, however, will lose five positions for the replacement of the gearbox).
Gutierrez topped the Q1 with the tenth best time, and went further in the second phase, which marked the seventh record, before Max Verstappen (by a thousandth of a second) and both Force India. The things are twisted in Q3: on your first attempt, had an off the track at Lesmo, and the second was just over three tenths off his record in Q2, leaving him with tenth place, even so assume his best starting position since joining the team Haas.
I Am very grateful and proud of the whole team; all have done a great job to achieve the consistency that has allowed us to work in those details that make the difference. For the first time I’ve managed to break the barrier of the top ten. My laps have been fantastic and I’ve spent really well pushing the car to the limit. We have taken full advantage of our options and now we have to try and do the same in the race.
Worse luck ran Romain Grosjean, who after missing almost all of the free 3 by a problem in the transmission was eliminated in the Q2 with the twelfth time, despite improve half a second in his second attempt in that round. As A result of the replacement of the gearbox, you lose five positions on the grid and will start from seventeenth place.
Obviously, it was a disappointment to face the sorting, knowing that he would have a penalty of five positions: I am Not happy; we pay the price for not having been able to shoot this morning, as I was not able to get the best out of the car. With some tyre pressures so high, you can not tighten to the maximum. For Esteban and the team is great to be in Q3. We’ll see what we can get in the race, although out in the position 17 is not ideal.
