The activity on the circuit of Monza began with heat, but the teams saw very soon that the tire superblando was able to hold relay of at least 15 turns in function of the use to be given and the car to use it. Opened, therefore the options to make a single stop in a race in which Ferrari appeared to be in a position to beat Red Bull with relative ease and, perhaps, be of concern to Mercedes.

The day of Saturday, was clearly marked by exceptional pole position of Lewis Hamilton, who got a lap half a second quicker than his team-mate, something that in Monza, it is even more meritorious than at other sites.

Ferrari was able to recover feelings lost, seeing as even a fantastic Valtteri Bottas beat the Red bulls, who are suffering more than expected in Monza. Something similar to what happened to the McLaren and Toro Rosso, with Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz clearly out of Q3.

Saturday: Happy with the car. Did not do a good first lap in Q3, but fixed it in the second.

Saturday: Pulled the maximum out of the car, it was not possible to get complete above.

Friday: Back to the good feelings, the car behaved quite well and the pace of long runs is promising.

Saturday: a Very good rating, maximizing the potential of the car.

Friday: Problems with the turbo in the first session, and with a sensor of the brakes in the second, prevented him from performing the job properly.

Saturday: Had to shoot very slow in the turn of preparation of Q2 and the tyres lost temperature.

Saturday: The car got worse from the free practice, losing balance and taking a lot of oversteer.

Friday: The opposite of his partner, believes that the Q3 is possible. Still need to improve a bit the pace of long runs to be able to fight for points.

Saturday: went out on track in free practice and was penalised five positions on the grid for replacement of gearbox. Disappointed because it cost too much to extract the best out of the car, complained rather of the pressures required minimum by Pirelli.

Friday: focused on maximizing the traction on a circuit that is very important.

Saturday: the First time you get to Q3, we felt very comfortable and was able to squeeze the car to the maximum.

The decisions of the commissioners

  • Esteban Gutiérrez has been punished with 200 euros for exceeding the speed limit at 1.5 km/h.
