Good first day for Toro Rosso that, however, has to go down positions as we move through the weekend, as happened at Sepang last weekend. Both pilots are satisfied with the behavior of the car, but above all with power to drive in a circuit as challenging as Suzuka.
In the case of Carlos Sainz, the day ended with the spaniard closing the top ten places, although it is not something that is likely to be repeated tomorrow.
“A day of challenge, obviously a track like Suzuka is always challenging in terms of implementation and piloting, but I have enjoyed a lot today. We have been able to complete many laps without any problems and, from the performance point of view, I think that is quite similar to that of Malaysia: looking good on Friday, but we know that it will not be easy to repeat throughout the weekend”.
Daniil Kvyat seems to recover little by little the good feelings and peace of mind, starting to enjoy it more with the steering. And this despite suffering a problem in the gearbox of the Toro Rosso, which forced his mechanics to replace it between the two sessions.
“it Was a good day, we did a good job. My shooting was something committed in the second session, but we know that tomorrow the third will return to normal and we’ll see where we are in comparison with the rest. We have collected a lot of information regarding the tires-that is what we were looking for – and we have enough to analyze it tonight.”
To Phil Charles, Chief Engineer of the team, the day was positive and they were able to complete almost the entirety of the planned programme despite the mechanical problems of Kvyat. The briton admits that the first sector adapts very well to the car, but in the second and the third, things are different.
“The first sector is complemented by our suite and enjoyed in the high-speed corners. We need to work a little more in sector 2, however. Daniil (Kvyat) had a problem in the gearbox at the end of the first session, the mechanics were changed to time, but we were not able to maximize the setup for the second session”.
