Jolyon Palmer has given Renault its second match in a row in the points (third of the season for the French team) at the end in tenth position in the Grand Prix of Malaysia, emulating it so successfully in Singapore by Kevin Magnussen. This is the first time that the briton, whose future in Formula 1 is far from assured, he manages to finish among the first ten.

After a classification which he called “depressing”, after not being able to overcome the Q1 with the nineteenth fastest time, Palmer had assured them that the race would give the maximum to recover. Said and done: despite complaining on the radio of a loss of power on the formation lap, Jolyon took advantage of the incidents of the first lap to improve positions and thanks to a strategy of one stop, with a very long first stint 32 laps with the hard tyre, rose to tenth place, which he defended until the end in front of Carlos Sainz.

I’m really happy. It has been a good weekend, with the exception of the classification, and I am very pleased to have been able to recover from it. The car and the strategy has worked to perfection and I’ve taken care of the tyres well. Finally, we have been presented with the opportunity and all went well. I wish everything was always so easy!

The cross of the coin lived Kevin Magnussen. After the start, the Danish was struck from behind by Daniil Kvyat in the curve 2, and also suffered damage to the front wing which forced him to go through the pits to replace the nose of his car, which sank in the standings. But the damage caused by the impact of the Russian pilot Toro Rosso ended up leading to the abandonment after 18 laps.

I Was the filling in the sandwich when everyone reacted to the incident between Vettel and Rosberg, but as well, they are often the racing. I changed the spoiler and I kept squeezing, but the cooling of the brakes was damaged and the temperature it kept going up, so I had to pull out. all in all, it has been a weekend promising and we will try to maintain this level of performance: I scored in the previous race, Jolyon has done today and they are points that all of us want to see.
