GP Russia: Hamilton will be able to reuse the engine that failed in qualifying of the GP of China

The power unit of the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton suffered a failure in the MGU-H (energy recovery system) during the first phase of the qualifying for the Chinese Grand Prix which dropped him back to the last square of the grid. The German squad then decided to send it back to your base to check the damage and evaluate its future use. The work is completed, Mercedes has revealed that the damage was not serious and the engine, the first of five that have at their disposal, the british, can be used once again.

“The power unit came to the factory on the Thursday following the race and the research has been thorough; the unit MGU-H was dismantled, and it is suspected that the problem had to do with the insulation. The turbocharger will be replaced, in addition to the oil pumps, because they found remains in the system; the repairs have been completed and the unit will continue in the reserve of the pilot, and will travel to Sochi as a spare”, reads the release Mercedes.

For his part, Lewis Hamilton has said that his difficult start of the season -after which is 36 points of his team mate, Nico Rosberg, in the overall standings – he has not discouraged. “As you can imagine, many things I passed by the head (after China), but, after all these years, experience tells me that I should keep calm and move on: many things can happen in the next 18 races and I have the utmost confidence in this team. I know that together we will be able to recover, and I’m sure that will best weekends”.
