GP Singapore: Ricciardo, in surprise that any rival would opt for the superblandos

There were voices that pointed to Red Bull as favourite for the Singapore Grand Prix. At the time of the truth, the team from Milton Keynes has not been able to prevent a new pole for Mercedes, but his result in classification has been at all respectable: Daniel Ricciardo has only been surpassed by Nico Rosberg, while Max Verstappen, the fourth, has been placed behind a off Lewis Hamilton.

Tanto Ricciardo as Verstappen scored their best times in Q2 mounting the tire superblando, with which to begin the race, while their opponents opted for the ultrablando. A decision that, as stated by the australian, was a foregone conclusion, and that she was surprised he was not chosen by any other team.

That was always our plan even before the start of the weekend. We were hoping that other teams do the same, so I have to say that we have been surprised to see that we were the only ones; I don’t know if it will be that Mercedes or Ferrari had no superblandos plenty to choose from. We already did in Monaco because we thought it was the right thing, but the wet track at the exit would not let us check it, so we’ll see what happens tomorrow.

Ricciardo was not disappointed not to have been able to be made with the pole and said he was satisfied with his second position, to something more than half a second of the time set by Rosberg. Daniel also believed that the victory can be within your reach; something that until the moment in Singapore only have achieved Champions of the World.

I’m happy. The goal was always to be in first line and we already knew that was going to be difficult to be ahead of the Mercedes, so it’s nice to have passed one. We’ve managed to improve things over the free and in the classification all gave the result: my last lap was clean, not as good as Nico’s, but still good enough to be in the first row.

Obviously, I would love to win and I think that I’ve made with a good opportunity to do so. Our pace yesterday was pretty good and this is a circuit in which the position on the track is important, and you can exit the safety car. We are in a good position and I hope by what we have that may have a new winner.

Not so satisfied over Max Verstappen, who saw his time was running close to 40 thousandths of Hamilton. The Dutch, after living a good feeling in free practice, complained about the lack of balance in his car at the time of the truth.

I’m Not happy; the whole weekend has been very good, but I don’t know what has happened, the balance has not been the one I wanted. To Me, it has been difficult to warm up the tires and I crashed a lot the front axle. We’ll see what happens tomorrow; the position output is not what I would have liked but in the end is not so bad.
