2010 has already been far away, but in the automotive world, we must not forget the machines that stole the heart it is now more than half a decade. Perhaps you may remember the Lancia New Stratos. It was the project of Michael Stoschek, the owner of a successful supplier to automotive German. He wanted to launch a Lancia Stratos of the TWENTY-first century, a supercar street that Lancia never dare to produce. Despite having to Pininfarina under the arm and no less than 50 firm orders, they will never produce more than one unit of the New Stratos.
Michael Stoschek is the owner of the rights to use the name Stratos currently, not Lancia.
The project was born in 2008, and its presentation in 2010 would catch by surprise the automotive industry. Was born a spectacular supercar mid-engine, painted in color black and designed by feathers master of Pininfarina. A machine that evoked very powerfully the legend of rally of the 70s, a supercar mid-engine source Ferrari and dimensions that make it look like a giant to a Renault Clio if you place your hand. Few knew then that the project was doomed to absolute failure.
We fell in love with it especially its design, faithful to the original, but with style codes transferred to the TWENTY-first century. I especially called attention to its short distance between the axles. Of only 2.4 metres, it was very similar to that of Stratos original car extremely agile and nervous at the limit. Only weighed 1.247 kilograms of weight, thanks to a body built in carbon fiber and an aluminum chassis. Used as the basis of a shortened version of the chassis of the Ferrari F430, which also used the V8 engine of 4.3 liters.
Optics rear LED came from a Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano.
The respect for history was always one of the keys to the project, and like its predecessor, the New Stratos was supposed to use a Ferrari engine. It is important for you to remain with this idea: Ferrari and Lancia had to go hand-in-hand to bring to fruition the project. The V8 engine of the Ferrari F430 had been enhanced, growing from the 510 HP F430 Scuderia, up to about incredible 540 HP to 8,200 rpm, achieved thanks to a reprogramming electronic, a sports catalytic converter Capristo, and a new complete cycle of admission.
The maximum torque increases to more than 500 Nm at 3.750 rpm. All the power went to the rear-wheel drive through a gear box sequential source Ferrari and six relations, able to shift gears in only 60 milliseconds. For the New Stratos had a true feeling of rally championship and features dazzling, its creators set up a group short on cash of changes. This limited its tip “only” 274 km/h, but allowed a 0 to 100 km/h of 3.3 seconds and a 0 to 200 km/h in just 9,7 seconds.
On your rear axle, Michael Stoschek installed a limited-slip differential mechanical Drexler.
Mounts suspension adaptive ZF Sachs with Eibach springs and ceramic brakes Brembo high-performance, also taken from the parts catalog of Ferrari. On the front axle, the discs have a diameter of 398 mm – hugs six-piston calipers – and on the rear axle have a diameter of 350 mm Think of the braking power offered by taking into account the light weight of the car. The tires are Dunlop Sportmaxx high-end with measures 315/30 R19 on the rear axle and 265/30 R19 on the front axle.
The interior mix of new components that Ferrari, but the result is a spectacular dashboard of aluminum, with watches that we retrotraían to the 70’s. Sport seats, carbon fiber and the spectacular steering wheel, completing the circle. Shortly be presented to the project, his creator went to Fiorano for Luca Cordero di Montezemolo could try. The car received only praises dynamic and good words from the steering italiano. In Pininfarina were also ready for production.
So what happened?
The CEO of Ferrari vetoed the project, refusing the sale of components of source Ferrari.
despite having a multitude of firm orders – about 40 firm orders, at a cost that was possibly close to half a million euros – his production never flourished. The project was vetoed by Amedeo Felisa in 2011. The CEO of Ferrari was the one that was to authorize the sale of engines and platforms of Ferrari F430, and possibly decided that he could make shadow to the then newly-released 458 Italia. Some believe that there were pressure on the part of the higher echelons of the FIAT Group, who wanted to see a reborn is not an official of the Lancia Stratos.
Be that as it may, the circumstances were always strange. Only one unit was built, although on the official website of the project it is specified that if at any time Ferrari is encouraged, to create a successor to the Ferrari Dino, it would be an excellent basis for a new Stratos. For the fifth global provider of automotive – family-owned – financing of a project so should never be a problem. In the meantime, I leave you with a few videos with the who keep dreaming.
