Esapekka Lappi won the Rally of Finland its first victory in the WRC. This victory was built on the great performance of the young Toyota driver, but also in the failure which no options left to Jari-Matti Latvala. This sort of generational change within the team of Tommi Mäkinen however does not reflect the real position of both riders in the bosom of the World, as explained by the own Jari-Matti Latvala. In fact, the ex-pilot of Volkswagen believes that Lappi will not be ready to fight for the title in the WRC in 2018 despite this first victory for his lack of experience.
Esapekka Lappi has won his first victory in the WRC in a rally which is known as the perfection. However, Latvala believes that four rallies at the wheel of a World Rally Car are not enough and that the experience will be a hindrance to Lappi at the time of fighting for the title in 2018: “I Think that to win the WRC, Esapekka Lappi needs to accumulate a lot more experience. There are still rallies in which it has not been raced, as can be the Rally of Mexico, and when you want to fight for the championship title, you have to know all the rallies to perfection“.
The own Esapekka Lappi it has been shown according to the appreciation of his companion: “it Is true what has been said Jari-Matti Latvala. It is obvious that I have a good experience in the Rally of Finland. However, it was my sixth time competing there. In Germany, however, will not be within my comfort zone. I have never competed in the rallies of Argentina and Mexico and there is that to be competitive in every rally to fight for the title. It is a great challenge if you want to talk in terms of championships. The priority is to get experience and make sure that my results are consistent. Then we will go to a level superior”.
