on the occasion of the appointment of the European Le Mans Series at Spa, Onroak Automotive has unveiled the new Ligier JS P217, the first LMP2-new generation adapted to the rules FIA which will enter into force in 2017. Designed in the Technoparc of Le Mans with Olivier Pla, Pipo Derani and Julien Canal as a pilot testing, this prototype has been designed to be able to compete in the Endurance World, in the European Le Mans Series and in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. For this reason, the tests have been carried out with tires of Michelin, Dunlop and Continental.
Born of the expertise of the Onroak Automotive with the Morgan LM P2, the Ligier JS P2 and the Ligier JS P3, the new Ligier JS P217 promises greater reliability and a better performance thanks to the engine 4.2 liter V8 developed by Gibson Technology, and that makes about 600 horsepower. Its final weight is 930 kg and at a glance you can check the great evolution of this model in terms of the aerodynamic compared to its predecessors, but also special emphasis has been placed on the power steering, the comfort of the passenger compartment and the ease of removal of the tires.
Onroak expected to make a big business with this prototype developed entirely in carbon fiber by becoming the first LMP2 new generation that has been presented, thereby taking the Ligier JS P217 the front with respect to the projects authorized by the FIA Dallara, Oreca and Multimatic-Riley. By the time Jacques Nicolet, President of Onroak, has confirmed that the preparer has already sold six units of the Ligier JS P217, two of them with specifications IMSA engine and Nissan team Tequila Patron ESM. In their first year of life, Onroak Automotive is expected to reach 12 units sold.
