Lorenzo Bertelli will not contest finally the Rally of Sweden, second appointment, a round of the WRC. In a brief statement, the Italian rider has explained that different work commitments prevent you from taking the output in one of his favorite events, despite having prepared for the occasion with a series of specific tests. It should be recalled in this regard that Lorenzo Bertelli was going to compete at the controls of one of the Ford Fiesta RS WRC new generation the team M-Sport features on car. With this last minute decision, Henning Solberg happens to be the only private pilot who will be competing with a World Rally Car of new generation.
Lorenzo Bertelli and Simone Scattolin had faced this Rally of Sweden as an attractive opportunity to compete with the Ford Fiesta RS WRC new generation, something that could not make it in 2017 since M-Sport was unable to take the volume of production necessary in the first weeks of life of the car to meet the requests of private pilots. However, certain work commitments have ruined the illusion and preparation of the couple Italy, who had even completed a specific test with the Ford Fiesta in terms of a lot of snow to arrive in the best conditions possible in the Rally of Sweden.
This circumstance adds a new episode to the peculiar love-hate relationship of Bertelli with the Rally of Sweden. In 2016, the Italian left voluntarily in the belief that the sponsor of the test did nothing to safeguard the safety of the riders, given the lack of snow on the stages. For its part, in 2017, and without the possibility of having a Ford Fiesta RS WRC new generation, Lorenzo Bertelli competed with a Ford Fiesta of the older generation, but ended up leaving with a engine problem. In the end, Bertelli has not been able to score in any of his five participations in Sweden.
