Maserati GranTurismo 2018: the veteran sports updates

The Maserati GranTurismo receives a considerable update.

Although it is a model that is already a veteran of the market, Maserati began production of the GranTurismo in 2007 and the alternative open GranCabrio in 2010, it seems that the brand is reluctant to launch their substitutes. And after having revealed that it is the biggest update of the model in this last decade, it seems that we’ll have to wait for something else to be able to see a successor to this range of the Italian manufacturer.

Presented in the afternoon of yesterday in the city of New York, at an event organized on Wall Street, the brand unveiled the refreshed model only in its variant coupe, GranTurismo, although it also announced that both versions would receive the same modifications to the model 2018.

In this area you can find a heavily redesigned front, which although takes the features that we already saw on the Maserati Alfieri concept continues to hold the basic shapes of the original model.

In this way, we find ourselves with a bumper more sharp, with a pronounced front grille, typical of the brand, but extracted directly from the prototype of hall mentioned above. The optical receiving new elements, but continue to maintain their external forms, and on the sides of the bumper there are two huge air inlets of large size, also inspired by the Alfieri. These small changes have been fundamental for the GranTurismo has improved its coefficient of aerodynamic resistance, a Cx of 0.33 has gone to 0.32. We do not have pictures of the rear bumper but this has also been redesigned.

The new GranTurismo in 2018 will be now available in only two finishes, Sport and MC, and in both cases we only have one choice mechanical, the aspirated V8 4.7-liter with automatic transmission of 6 speeds. The previous V8 engine of 4.2 litres has been removed so that now only find the engine option, a block-designed and built by Ferrari that delivers 460 HP and 520 Nm of maximum torque. The new model reaches 100 km/h from standstill in 4.8 seconds with a maximum speed of 299 km/h. In the case of the version of MC, which has a lighter frame, manages to reach 100 km/h in only 4,7 seconds and with a maximum speed of 300 km/h.

In the interior we also find a interior updated, with a center console redesigned and new knobs, a new audio system and more options in leather or Alcantara for the coatings, in addition to a system of information and entertainment updated, now with 8.4 inch touch screen and compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
