The current engine 2.0 turbo four-cylinder assembling the Mercedes-AMG 45 , GLA 45 CLA 45 has reached its physical limit. They are words of Tobias Mors – director of Mercedes-AMG – in an interview with Motoring, an Australian magazine. After the facelift, the Class A received an even more powerful version of the 2.0 turbo, mounted A 45 AMG . With 381 horsepower, four-cylinder that has a specific power bestial 190.5 hp / liter. The next generation will be developed by the team of Formula 1 Mercedes.
Not electrical turbochargers, but not a hybrid is discarded
The current 2.0 turbo Mercedes A 45 AMG has a specific output of 190.5 hp / liter.
Today, with 475 Nm of torque and almost 400 hp, figures from small two liters are more typical of a five-liter naturally aspirated V8. Current technology does not allow Mercedes extract more power block in the present generation without compromising the reliability and structural integrity. That is why the next generation of this bestial propellant will be developed largely by the team Mercedes Formula 1 , whose headquarters are in the English county of Northamptonshire.
Currently the Formula 1 engines are 1.6-liter V6 engine, turbocharged to reach powers of up to 700 CV – approx. The winner of the 2015 season engine is the Mercedes engine, so if someone should resort to achieve high specific power is the team of Formula 1 racing engineers would work with headquarters in Stuttgart, producing an engine that could apply advanced energy recovery .
The future of Mercedes-AMG goes by electrification not by electric turbos.
is a motor that could enjoy KERS indeed. An extra boost, an electric chute that could provide dozens of additional horses for a few seconds to the wheels. This future high-performance turbo engine would have a displacement of only 1.6 liters and will have a over 400 hp capacity, with a specific output of more than 200 hp / liter. What in Stuttgart if they seem to be clear is that this engine not use electric turbos . A Mercedes is not convinced by this technology applied to this engine at the moment.
As we have told, electric turbos require a voltage of 48 volts to operate, and although Audi and study its implementation in production cars, need to use an extra battery for operation outside the 12 volt system which supplies all electrical components of a modern car. What it has been ruled out for the moment is the launch of a AMG diesel or other AMG power, as they did with SLS eDrive a few years ago .
