Mercedes-AMG S 65 Cabrio: the super-roadster with V12 biturbo 630 HP why is it better a V12 biturbo a biturbo V8?

From Affalterbach, half an hour from Stuttgart, comes the new Mercedes-AMG S, 65 Cabrio. A cabrio high-flying, luxury, elegance, comfort and performance, the flagship of the convertibles of Mercedes-Benz. A new twist to the concept that we have already seen in the Mercedes-AMG S, 63 Cabrio, and that unlike this has replaced its V8 biturbo by V12 biturbo that comes – hold on to your seats – to the 630 HP of power and to the magic figure of 1,000 Nm of maximum torque. And without a doubt, we are before an example of the V12 still has a lot of sense for Mercedes-Benz. To which we ask the following question: why should I choose a Mercedes-AMG S, 65 Cabrio with engine V12 and not a Mercedes-AMG S, 63 Cabrio with V8 engine?

S, 65 Cabrio is more powerful, thanks to its engine V12, but its dynamics will be different to that of the S, 63 Cabrio, which also boasts four-wheel drive.

The Mercedes-AMG S, 65 Cabrio equipped with an engine of twelve cylinders in a v, 5.980 cm3, biturbo, and 630 HP of power reached between the 4,800 and 5,400 rpm. Its maximum torque of 1,000 Nm is reached between 2.300 and 4.300 rpm. Reaches 250 km/h, while following the policy of Mercedes-Benz, will not pass – at least for the range – of 250 km/h due to a limiter-mail.

This convertible high-flying accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds. Some figures are spectacular for a vehicle of its size, and its weight. But not incredible, if we consider that the Mercedes-AMG S, 63 Convertible, with a V8 engine and only 585 BHP of power, it only requires 3.9 seconds.

What is the difference then to a S, 63 Cabrio S, 65 Cabrio?

Mercedes-Benz continues to rely on engines V12, when what it is is to provide the highest refinement and quality of the wearing course worthy of the car more luxurious on the market.

To start, the Mercedes-AMG S, 65 Cabrio will enjoy rear-wheel-drive, unlike the S, 63 Cabrio that is only available with four-wheel drive 4MATIC AMG Performance. The aspect of the traction, coupled with the understandable increase in weight that you supposed to enjoy an engine with four more cylinders, explains the reason why the V12 requires a couple of tenths extra to reach 100 km/h from a standing start. To compensate any increase in weight, as also happens in the S, 63, Mercedes-AMG will equip this convertible saving solutions weight own of sports of high-flying, as a substitute their-acid battery by a lithium battery.

If the benefits are not the main excuse to give to a Mercedes S-Class Cabrio engine of twelve cylinders, what should be the release of this version? The main reason that Mercedes-AMG continues to rely on its engines V12 is not other than the refinement, quality, ride, smoothness, and all of this while enjoying a performance of the first level.

That is the reason that also marketed versions Mercedes-AMG S-Class sedan and Coupe, or even a Mercedes-AMG SL 65 Roadster, and a Mercedes-AMG G 65, the super-suv of the brand.

And how we differentiate visually a S, 65 Cabrio S, 63 Cabrio?

once more, the aesthetic similarities with the Mercedes-AMG S, 63 Cabrio are important. In both AMG, continues to enjoy a front very aggressive defenses, more sports, two outputs of dual exhaust in the rear, and a good rear diffuser. But the touch dark, in matt black, of the details of the S, 63 Cabrio, has been replaced by chrome more elegant, as seen in the mesh style honeycomb and the frames of the grille, exhaust outlets, and other inserts outdoor.
