Mike Rockenfeller change of team at the end of the DTM

Audi Sport is in a position to get the hat-trick in the DTM 2016. The options in the title of pilots rely almost exclusively on Edo Mortara, the Italian is 14 points behind the leader Marco Wittmann. For its part, in the team classification and in the trademark, the signature of Ingolstadt is in franchise with 25 points advantage over the BMW Team RMG and with 37 units in relation to the BMW. With the aim of trying to keep the lead in both classifications, Mike Rockenfeller will compete with Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline in the final appointment in Hockenheim.

In this way, Edo Mortara and Mike Rockenfeller will be a partner in the Team Abt Sportsline taking advantage of the absence of Mattias Ekström at Hockenheim. With the swede, seeking his first title of the World Rallycrooss in Estering, Audi Sport has opted to make this change of parts with the objective of increasing their options for the title of teams and constructors. This decision in turn implies that René Rast goes on to compete with the Audi Sport Team Phoenix as reserve driver for Audi and substitute Ekström in this test. Will partner with the also German Timo Scheider.

In relation to the last appointment of the season, the Head of Audi in the DTM, Dieter Gass, said: “it Is obvious that we are going to do everything possible to provide a performance as strong as in the past two years at Hockenheim. we Know that our Audi RS 5 DTM is very fast on this track and that makes us optimistic. We are aware of everything that can happen in a final round of the DTM, but we are in the fight for the three titles after a very good season. Even so, we still have not reached our goals. All those involved must do the last effort“.
