The fifth model in the MINI family will be an electric that will arrive to the market in 2019. That type of car will be is still a mystery, but a derivative of the Rocketman Concept could be one of the alternatives.
Hace a time MINI announced that it would focus on an array composed of five models, leaving aside some of the models with low demand. By the time the brand has already unveiled four of those five models, but the last of them continues still to be a mystery.
But these days, the global head of MINI Sebastian Mackensen confirmed in an interview granted to Automotive News this new model will arrive to the market in 2019 and that will be an all-electric vehicle. However that type of car will be, still remains a mystery.
Taking into account the prototypes that the british brand has presented recently, the only model 100% electric has been the Superleggera, a spectacular roadster that does not seem the right candidate to give life to those famous ‘fifth model’.
MINI tries to bring the Superleggera to production
however, there is a prototype presented in the year 2011 that could fit in this new proposal and is not more than the MINI Rocketman concept car, that small model of the dimensions almost similar to the Classic MINI, which BMW never managed to bring to production.
a year Ago, the product manager of the brand MINI Ralph Mahler, it ensured that the brand was ready to bring production a car smaller than the current MINI Cooper, stating that the MINI Rocketman was still on the company’s plans.
A small, urban electric that is located below the MINI Cooper sounds like a right idea, especially given the excellent reception that the model has been between the public and the press.
