With these words of Carlos Ghosn, president and head of Renault group, it was confirmed an open secret, whose last official step had been the letter of intent to purchase Lotus in the past month of September: Lotus disappeared as the team… again. They’ve only been in a year, powered by Mercedes, but the severe economic problems that dragged for years, and not even the huge contribution of PDVSA as a sponsor of Pastor Maldonado, including other income, were able to save the accounts. Despite this name change, both the pilot venezuelan as Jolyon Palmer will keep his seat for 2016.

Renault recovered and its position in the factory in Enstone, where he managed their recent successes in 2005 and 2006 with two titles Fernando Alonso. The return of the French brand has not been easy, and less after a season of disappointing in that, as motorists from the factory of Red Bull, have received many criticisms. For this reason, they were placed in a limit situation, and it was the vote of Carlos Ghosn who decided:

“Renault had two options: return to 100% or leave it at all. After a detailed study, I have decided that Renault will be in Formula 1, beginning in 2016. The final details of the main owners of Formula 1 gave us the confidence to accept this challenge. Our ambition is to win, despite the fact that it will take us some time,”

What is not clear about the statement is in what situation is the brand Renault with respect to the rest of the teams. What until now was called Lotus will be known as the Renault, but the latest reports indicate that, if finally continue driving to Red Bull, they would use another of the group’s brands: Nissan.

The details of the new program, Renault will be known in the month of January.
